  • Seat Shudder & Drumming Noise when Driving

I have a 2008 Prado, which makes a drumming noise above 95 km/hr. This drumming sound disappears when on the slightest left lock, but returns when driving straight ahead or right lock! It has been with me since about 55,000km
Mechanics are stumped can anyone assist with ideas.

Secondly, I now notice a shudder in seat as I drive at almost any speed, this is noticeable especially on good roads like freeways.

I could be completely off track, but have you checked your tyres? I had a similar noise for a while (particularly on a smooth freeway) and then eventually it started with the very slight vibration, however I could feel the vibration through the floor mainly, not the seats. It ended up being my right rear tyre had separated in the carcass and had a large lump on 1 edge of the tyre. To be honest I was amazed at how out of round the tyre was when I found it, i would have expected a lot more noise and vibration than I was getting. Mine started at around 70,000km. Considering your noise goes away on left lock I suspect it will be one of the passenger side tyres, however definitely worth checking all the tyres. If you aren't able to check yourself i'm sure your local tyre shop will be happy to check it out for you, because then you have to buy a new tyre from them!!. I was lucky and was able to get hold of a 2nd hand tyre of the same size and tread so I still have a complete set that are worn roughly even, I was even luckier that they didn't charge me anything for the tyre

      Things to check:

      - Tyres as mentioned
      - Wheel balance
      - Wheel hubs
