  • Buying a 120 V6 with 200,000 on clock?

    hi i am currently looking at a 120 v6 petrol that has 200,000 on the clock should i be worried about this? are there particular things to check out with a prado of this era to try and avoid a bad purchase?

    any help would be great

    More vehicle information would help us out... Year? Service history? Etc.

      its a 2004 manual v6 with no modifactions and from a quick scan in the log book looks to have been to toyota for its full service history and looks like it has not had a hard life, there was no tell tale red dust anywhere o be seen all in all a rather tidy car , i know the 3l td will go forever do the v6 petrol have the same life span

          There is one on here with 400,000 on it im told. Mine is at 280,000 with no major issues so far. Provided it is well maintained and serviced on time- its a Toyota, it'll just keep on going. If you get it, I'd advise a full service almost immediately for piece of min though.
          2004 Prado GXL. v6 auto, ARB deluxe bar, exhaust, 2" EFS lift kit, Outback Acc rear bar,
          rallye 2000 spots, roof mount dvd, dig_options stereo, toyota roof bars.

            i don't think that would be a problem . mine has 175 000 no problems . your looking at a manual which will have less to worry about . its a toyota . i had a corolla that did 485 000 ks and was flogged mercilessly every day . couldn't kill it and i tried real hard . if it was a ford or a holden id say don't touch it . thats why i have 3 toyotas in my driveway .

              I am looking as well for a used Prado, but auto so my wife can drive it. very hard to find low KMs. 180.000kms-200.000kms is ok to buy?

                yeah everything i looked at for months was 180k - 200k. this isnt an issue from what i heard/read for this engine, assuming its been rgularly serviced they can go onto 500k plus.

                  Many 80 series cruisers have gotten 400k to 500k on the petrol donk. This is common of a lot of toyotas. No reason the 4l prado donk is any different....

                    I personally cant say to much for the petrol engine but having the same opinion as most do its a TOYOTA should last for a decent set of Kms especially if service and maintained regularly, i my self have a '05 diesel and just clicked over 350k on the clock regularly serviced great car smooth engine love it.

                      Just did the same thing. Bought a 07 grande with loads of bits. Had done mostly long trips for work and has 200k on it. Got the major 200k service done straight away. Will remain to be seen if it was a good buy or not but loads of these and other less well made cars last well over 300 - 400k kms. I doubt the engine is goin to be the problem. Just make sure the rest of the car is well looked after and go for it.

                        Similar story to the rest of the guys on here - I bought a 2003 Grande V6 with just under 200K on the clock about 18 mths ago.

                        No real dramas from an engine perspective, although I have changed the battery, starter motor and rear airbags (Grande spec only). These things are expected for the age of the car in my view.

                        As long as the service history looks solid, I would absolutely recommend buying one.

                          Check the left engine mount bracket, where its welded to the chassis. Be interesting to see if any high mileage vehicles are showing signs of stress at this point.
