  • Help - How to replace drivers side rear pop out window

    Hi All,

It has been an expensive day mowing the lawn today, a rock from the wippersnipper has smashed the rear drivers side pop out window on the prado (2009 GXL).

I have done some searching and did not find any thing on this window.

Has anyone replaced one of these before is it a DIY thing or should I just let Toyota do it?

Have you thought about just claiming it on insurance? Another PPer broke his recently and his insurance covered it under his 1 free windscreen per year!

    Cheers Andrew

        Hi All,

I don't have glass coverage so I can claim excess free so any advice would really be welcome. I am guessing the interior trim will need to come out to get to two bolts? on the inside to replace it?

          Window is in.

Remove rear bottom wagon trim. Pop off enough of the top window surround trim to get to the bolts that hold the window in. Undo the nuts with a 10mm tube socket undo the screw at the back that holds the glass in place and then bolt on the new window.

Do not attempt to remove the small cover at the top of the pillar it does not come off - there is a plug (fastner) behind that you need pop out.

most of the time was spent trying to figure out how the small cover comes off - that doesn't

Glad to hear that you found a way to replace your window.
Did the new window come with the antenna fitted and as simple as just plug and play?
This is a belated suggestion, but I've used a site called www.toyodiy.com its a parts site that shows schematic diagrams of the Prado.
You can nut out the way things go together from the expanded view and parts list.
            Cheers Troy

Hi Troy the drivers side window in my Prado does not have an antenna in it so it was not a issue. Thanks for the link, it will no doubt come in handy down the track.

can somebody explaine in detail or add a pic?
i didnt understand what fastener/pillar are you talking about.
