All I know is the salesman had a show price sheet with about 10 different modeled vehicle recovery points. I sighted the 120 & 150 prado models on this stock sheet and I asked why there was no price against these 2 items. The salesman went off and came back with the price and gave me his contact details to order. If anyone else is heading to the show on the weekend, they might want to get some more detailed info, as once I was advised of the price, I started to lose interest.

For what it is worth, whether it was safe or not, I was stuck trying to get onto the Fraser Island barge at Inskip Point with my 1200kg poptop in tow and a mate snatched me out without any problems.
I hope to get some rated recovery points before I go again this year just to be safe.

Will be interesting wether they design them to fit to any 120 prado with any bar or only with their own ARB bar. I have the factory toyota soverign bar and still no one makes a rated recovery point to suit the bar. There are the outback ones but to be honest I dont think the bolts that would be holding the recovery bracket in place are any stronger then the factory loops I have with the weld on them. (yes they say only tie downs) They changed them on the 120 in about late 04 where they wernt just welded underneath they went right through then welded on the back as per my previous post with pictures attached. I think half the time mobs like ARB bring out some stuff and charge $200 for it just to make a $$ or to. Dont see any tag on the red recovery point in picture ?? I thought any thing that is rated should be stamped. Did you notice Graig any stamp or anything on it indicating its rating ?? I know this debate will probaby go on for ever but about factory tie downs and to be honest looking at the factory loops on my 120 I would feel quit safe using them for recovery points BUT the problem is most 4wd clubs and the like wont accept them as recovery points so we need to fit recovery points up so we can attend outings and things OR if we become stuck people wont be willing to pull you out. ut I think back to really ealry days and yes I know things change big time over a period of years but even now looking at the toyota cab chassis and things how many people would have been using the factory points for recoveries and how many people were injured due to the hook letting go or even how many hooks even let go ?? I have seen a few vehicles (new prados and cruisers) in the quarry up the road from my work and in fact one of the vehicles live two streets away and none of them have added recovery points ?? Would have thught these days with all the OH&s stuff the would have been mandatory to be in place on any of the company vehicles. What about mining vehicle's has anone taken note on what they have up front for recovery ?? Cheers Steve

Mine is October '04 and has the old style (useless) tie down points and a Sovereign alloy bar. I think that you'll find that 4WD clubs and PP trips will accept the Outback Ideas tow points and even the ARB bullbar tow points in the absence of an actual "rated" recovery point, as long as they are utilised as a pair. I can see how Andrew has gotten around this by fitting rated hooks to a solid mounting point bolted to the chassis, but if you consider the Outback Ideas tow point to be a solid mounting point bolted to the chassis, then doesn't a rated shackle attached to that solid mounting point achieve the same result? As long as the load is shared by both points with a bridle, IMHO this is the best compromise and all we really have available for the 120 at this point in time.

I saw one of these new recovery points on a hilux and they do look must stronger than the OI ones. The guy at ARB fyshwick told me that you would only need one because they are so strong. Personally I would have thought you would still need 2 of them to share the load across both sides of the chassis.
At $200 each that makes for a very expensive install
It's a crying shame that Toyota just didn't manufacture a vehicle designed for 4wdriving with some suitable hooks on them already, then we could all get some sleep!
Thanks Andrew for your knowledgable comments I find them very informative. Look forward to meeting you in September
                  Cheers

here ya go, not particularly clear and you cant see the washer between the point and the chassis to fill the void.

Hi guys, just to clarify, development of Prado recovery points hasn't started so there are definitely no part numbers or pricing available. Eventually we would like to investigate recovery points for Prado so we're not ruling them out all together but there won't be anything available in the near future.

                        Cheers, Sam.

Just like to know what ARB has put on mine when they did the premium bullbar. They're much longer than OI with three holes. The original tie down loops are still there so surely was a waste of time putting these on if they only do the same job. IMO no manufacturer wants to go down the legal minefield and call them "rated" as they have no control over the conditions they will be used in. I have used mine without any problems and it's up to the people involved in recoveries to know what they're doing.

                          Cheers. Jim

Just goes to show you cant believe what an ARB salesman tells you at a show stand. And I specifically asked the sales guy to confirm that they were the "new" ARB rated recovery points in line with what they had on display (Hilux etc...). Oh well, lesson learnt and in future I'll a/ keep my trap shut about new products about to come available and b/ take AJ120's advice and "dont believe it until I see for myself!"

This is disappointing. Look at the buildup pages throughout this forum and you will see a strong (very) ARB following. God knows I am good for well over $20,000 between my two Prados. I am (and remain, just) a true ARB advocate but this is not the first time I have felt like a second class 4wder having a Prado. Naturally I would appreciate ARB getting off its fat 4Rs3 and prioritising the 120 or like my more recent purchases, they will continue to go elsewhere.

Or at least stop feeding us BS and actually gives us realistic time frames and stick to them.

I was told last February that side steps would be out mid year, then in July I was told end of the year, then start of this year, now Im being told end of second quarter.

Well... WTF is it? TJM sold out a shipment of 70 units in a matter of weeks, and there is only 12 pairs left in the next shipment of 70... That's 140 lost potential sales (over $100,000 revenue).. Hell, I can't stand TJM but at least they don't feed you bs all the time.
