  • Suggestions for which oil to use

    G'day

I have recently bought a 2005 Prado V6 4000. I plan to change the oil myself. Can anyone recommend an engine oil to suit this vehicle.

    Cheers:

Here you go. Find your oil at one of these sites.
I always use Valvoline, but others will swear by other brands. Like preference for different bras and undies IMO.

Thanks Davros for the links, another 'add to favourites' posting, although I refuse to be drawn by the second part of your answer. I will leave that for others!!!

i too just bought a 05 v6 and changed the oil to valvoline 5 w40 syn power. however i have found it does make a bit more tapping noise than before. not sure if because of changing to synthetic or the type of oil. going to try a different brand and see how it goes. otherwise the cost of tappet adjustment comin up ( not sure on cost but dont want to think just yet )
am looking to go to penrite next = hpr5
anyone else have suggestion on good oil

Toyota used rebranded Mobil oil back then (not sure about now). (thats what a mate who is the service manager at Toyota in Newcastle reckoned)

So I would use Mobil non synthetic in exactly the grade the manual states.

Forget the mumbo jumbo of synthetic or whatever brand has the best advertising budget. The Toyota engineers know what works.

Castrol Magnatech or Castrol Edge Sport is what I used in my V6 Prado 120.

Would 10w-40 work for us here in the Middle East? or is it better to go with 20W-50?

I think you would find 20w 50 too thick. 10 or 15w 40 is the best choice, but check first.
