  • Auto downshift query

    Hi all,

    I have an auto 2008 120 series - done around 84000k.
Was driving through suburban Melbourne yesterday in D4 as per normal and decended a long hill that I have driven down on countless occasions. Took my foot of the accelerator to coast down around 65-70k/hr and for some unknown reason, the auto changed down to 3 gear. Stayed there for a while and then it changed back up. Checked all switches and gear sticks thinking I had pressed something inadvertently but everything looked ok.

Only happened the once and have been back down the same hill without any problems.

Anyone had a similar experience? Will be towing our camper trailer over to WA just after Christmas and need to know all is ok.

I have the 2008 auto D4D. If you touch the brakes while going downhill the "hill descent control" kicks in (on mine anyway) and it drops back a gear to use engine braking as an aid on descent. I find it annoying more than not and cancel it by dropping back into 4th manually and then popping back into 5th.

    Cheers,

    Dave
