  • Aftermaket Stereo

    Hey All

I'm new to this and loving it so far so I thought i'd ask everyone out there what they think!!

I am after an aftermarket stereo for my 2005 GXL. I want something with bluetooth, ipod connection, GPS etc

Has anyone bought anything like this and where did you get it from?

I am currently in the process of pimping my GXL with bullbar, winch, roof racks, suspension upgrade, UHF, side steps & new tyres so if anyone has any helpful hints or suggestions before I go broke buying all this stuff that would be great.

    Cheers

    Pat

    Gazzillions to choose from!
I have a Kenwood one but its not very user friendly, most with doulbe DIN will fit but you need the spacers to around the unit to make it look nice.
Mine came off an Echo and I got them from Toyota.

I just bought a Toyota stereo off a late model Corolla from ebay. It has 6CD, MP3, USB, Aux in, bluetooth, 4.3" screen that is reverse camera compatible and the bluetooth does A2DP streaming. It doesn't have GPS but the phone does that for street navigation and the tablet does offroad navigation. Keeps the factory look and replaces the Toyota satnav which is only good for the GPS and reverse camera bit. Doesn't have MP3, bluetooth or aux in.

Do you have any pictures of it AMTS, I'd be keen to see how it looks once installed as well as I have often thought of a replacement stereo but don't really want to go for an aftermarket one as I perfer to keep it looking fairly standard, that sounds like it could be a good option.

depending on how much you wanting to spend on the aftermarket stereo, I found these guys on ebay who have several of main aftermarket audio brands to choose from. http://stores.ebay.com.au/BigTechBar...id=p4340.l2563

Otherwise you could always look at the digoptions stereo's a lot of people on here seem to have. I would recommend reading the threads in the GPS section first though.

                Pat,
I've got a Kenwood unit in my Prado, comes with the works, iPod, DVD/CD with MP3 playback, GPS, reverse camera, bluetooth, USB port and a 7" screen.
GPS uses Garmin mapping, which is very handy if you know what you're doing.
Very good unit, if a little pricy.

I bought a single DIN size Eclipse brand (model CD5030) for approx $400 around 2 years ago. I think you can still get them for now less than $400. It has Bluetooth and I-pod connectivity into the glovebox or whereever you wish to locate. Can access all of the i-pod menu's on the screen / playlists etc. and it displays song and artist whilst playing.

The face of the unit is removable and it has a CD player which I rarely use. I removed the 6 disc stacker / double din toyota unit and when it was initially installed they included a empty pocket under the unit which I have since filled with a GME TX4500 single DIN UHF which is a neat fit. It is good to have a few thousand songs on tap. The model may now be superseded but I think the Eclipse range is worth some consideration.

I think it is good. The sound would be improved with aftermarket speakers but I have never bothered as it still sounds good and there was an improvement from the standard toyota head unit.

I installed one of these Alpine systems with an Alpine 6 stack shuttle under the passenger seat. Not cheap, but works quite well with good quality sound. Used original speakers.

I purchased one off Ebay from Matt at Digoptions. It Has bluetooth, Ipod connection, Mp3 , DVD, Reverse Camera and Gps that comes with street mapping and a demo version of Oziexplorer for offroad mapping. I purchased a license from oziexplorer and added some Hema maps and have two excellent Gps setups. Also has an AV in so i can connect a camera to the back of my caravan and see what's happening when towing. Works with original steering controls.

OK, so lets wake this up, I need some direction.

In my 08 GXL, I have the standard stereo which goes OK, but not without issues, and I want to replace it with a unit that fixes these issues.
I dont necessarily need GPS and all the bits, but I REALLY need a bluetooth that works properly with out callers saying "speak up, I cannot hear you" and better radio coverage.
I do use CD's, but not that much, so dont need a stacker.
I DO use my iPhone/iTunes all the time, so one that integrates this, via bluetooth or cable.

Oh, I like my music LOUD.

Pioneer AVH-P8450BT. Bluetooth works flawlessly, as does the iPod interface. I put all my music on an SD card and just leave that plugged in. Also does CD/DVD with dual zone if you have kids in the back.

Hey Trek, this thing looks great, one question, does it integrate with the steering wheel controls on the 120?
