    Drew

Yes, it complained about Firefox, so I had to fire up good old IE to get it working.

I've only had time for a brief scan, but it looks like it has more than enough detail - forget the Haynes or Ellery book option.
(There's probably enough detail for me to break something if not careful, especially on the electrical side, where I'm most likely to tinker :? )

Not sure what security message you're referring to? IE did throw up something about opening active content, but there was a check-box available to supress the message in the future. I checked this and it hasn't popped up since.

    Cheers...Steve

Nice to meet another eletrical tinkerer! :-)

The Active Content message is the message I'm referring to. Every time it comes up I select the "Don't tell me in future" box but it still comes up, it even blocks some of the pages. I've played with Exploder's security settings to no avail. It does this on my work PC as well. I might spend more time on it later.

What electrical work are you planning/doing?

I've done an Aux electrical feed to the trailer, installed a Prodigy electric brake controller installed a reversing camera, installed dual batteries, installed a HF/VHF/UHF transciever, installed a UHF CB.

My next job is to install my driving lights and to change the lighting logic so the fog lamps come on automatically with the high beam.

Like I said, I wish it had pre installed spare time, what with work, Electrical Engineering studies, first baby due in three weeks, learning to fly and other hobbies, now I've only got those idle hours between 2am and 4am to fill! I'm sure the new baby will look after that for me!

      Cheers,

      Drew.

        Ahh, I stand corrected Drew.

The Active Content message re-appeared when I tried the CD this morning, despite having the "Don't tell me in the future" box checked. It must reset this every time you re-boot your PC. But the second time I loaded it, the message didn't appear - I can live with that. I've not had any blocked screens though - do you have pop-ups blocked?

Yes, great to meet another electrical tinkerer. (Even though I have this piece of paper that says I'm an Electronics Engineer - that part of my brain rarely gets used these days, but it's like riding a bike isn't it )

        Bit off topic, but....
I've installed a UHF CB, heavy duty GME aerial to the bull bar, IPF driving lights and power for the GPS. I also have the bits to install a merit/hella plug in parallel with the rear power outlet and upgrade the cabling. Would also prefer this to bypass the acc switch, so will get that sorted when I have the time.

Bluetooth Car kit for the phone is probably next. I also have an iPod interface which I'd like to get working with the Toyota radio. I managed to connect it all, but couldn't figure out how to select an aux feed on the radio - might call Fujitsu and see if they can shed any light on it. I have the pin-outs for the various plugs and confirmed that there are aux lines available on the radio - just don't know how to activate them from the front panel?

Dual battery is also on the list - but I want to do a lot more research about how the trays fit - there's not much room there. And I must admit that I'm a bit wary of adding more weight up front, with reports of chassis cracking (I already have the ARB bull bar).

Regarding your idea for the fog lights - sounds good to me and makes perfect sense for someone who lives in the Blue Mountains, but I do believe that it's illegal to drive with fog lights on when it's not foggy. This from the RTA website...

"Front and rear fog lights must only be used in fog or
rain, or when conditions such as smoke and dust limit
your vision. It is a legal requirement that once
conditions improve and you can see more clearly, the
front and rear fog lights are switched off."

Guess it would have to be a slow day for a copper if he pulled you up for it, but who knows these days.

Congrats for the impending new arrival - it doesn't sound like you're going to have any spare time soon, but a very happy problem to have

        Best regards...Steve

P.S. I also enjoy flying - I have about 48 hours, passed my GFPT and completed one NAVEX, but I got too busy at work and so haven't completed my PPL. Will have to get back into it though. Happy landings.

          OT: Chatter

Sounds like we've got quite a bit in common, Steve.

I've been slack and haven't posted any photos of the dual battery installation yet. I took my time and set it up just right. Give me a shout if you want to hear how I went about it.

The issue of the use of fog lights is an interesting one. It angers me that the RTA waste time waffling like this - all modern vehicles have very well designed fog lights that don't spill any light that might dazzle oncoming drivers. The reason it angers me is that I'm a big fan of being visible when driving, I wish the RTA would concentrate its energies to educating drivers to use their headlights in poor visibility conditions. It amazes me how many people drive in rain/mist or dawn and dusk without any headlights on at all. They are so hard to see when waiting at an intersection, but the drivers have no idea, they just think "I can see the road so I don't need my headlights on". I don't think my planned mod would be an issue as I plan to have the fog lights revert to direct control once the high beam is dipped. There I had my rant! :-)

Flying is great fun, I've been gliding for a while and also flying Ultralights - I've just recently moved up to GA aircraft. I'm on my way to my GFPT. I'm lucky enough to work in the Defence/Aerospace industry in Flight Simulation so I can test my skills in a $30 million simulator. No excuse for failing my Instrument Rating when I get around to it!

Good luck with your projects on the Prado.

          Cheers,

          Drew.

Just ordered my manual on CD from the local dealer. The spare parts bloke was scratching his head at the part number I gave him, and was surprised at the price of the disk, $53.50 + GST.

Should have it in a day or two, has to come from Brisbane.

I was surprised to find out that I couldn't get the basics in spares from the dealer without having to wait for him to get them in. You know, top & bottom hoses and the 2 fan belts. They just don't carry them.

                Hi guys.

                Just an FYI.

I took the Toyota CD part number listed on the previous page to my local dealer and was told, “that CD Manual has been superseded :? and the new one is SC00W1EA” (0 = Zero).

I don't know if this is 100% correct, but the SC00W1EA CD manual does NOT cover the D4D engine.

                Paul.

Just ordered the new CD today, which should be in on Monday. Questioned the D4D information being not on the disc and was advised that yes it was because they wouldn't leave the information off a superseding disc. Toyota man advised that when a disc is superseded, the old information is still there with all of recently added info.

Anyway I am going to take my laptop with me when I pick it up and will hopefully be able to see if the D4D info is actually there before I pay for it, which will be interesting in itself because I think parts like this will be non-returnable :?

                  Will keep you posted

I have the updated disc and the D4D info is definitely on it.

Looking at it again it looks like the latest info you want is in the Repair Manual Supplement 2005.8- section which is the 3rd item from the bottom of the list and also in the New Car Features 2006.8- section just above it. The D4D and new transmissions for Australia are in this bit.

                        The part number is SC00W1EA.

An interesting thing in the new features sections is that there is an optional Rear Diff Lock available on Australian models. I hadn't seen that before and it doesn't seem to be listed as an option on the Toyota online spec sheet. Anyone know anything more about this?

I looked at the specs a bit more and it seems like it has been a build option from the start of 120 series as far as the Service manual goes. But maybe Toyota Aust have never decided to offer it as an order option.

Thats interesting. I called 2 Toyota places in Perth & was quoted over $80- plus GST. When I expolained that others had paid $60- he suggested I might like to try & get one through them then> Didn't seem to concern him at all. And this is after I gave hime the order code because when I initially asked, he told me they didn't sell them.
