    Wally

    Im guessing a lot of the people on this forum locked in their deals at least a couple of months ago.
    Now the huge delays in production were "rumoured" back then but even the dealers didnt have much info to back it up.

    Now that the delays in the delivery of all these orders have become apparent, the dealers have the ball firmly in their court. The dont have to offer any discounts what so ever.

    Good luck with your search for a better deal and maybe some of the pradopoint members from the second best city in Oz, Melbourne, might be able to point you in the right direction.

      Wally it may pay to put your location (state etc) in your profile so others can easily pick where you are from.

      64+ is way too much, I paid that for a Grande albeit a petrol!!

        Done. Location added.

        This mornings Update so far, 3 dealers have offered me GXL's in stock ready to go, 2 black, 1 white and 1 silver. All update models, I have quotes roughly the same all $64k couple of hundred dollars the difference.

        4x4 show is on in 2 weeks. I mentioned this to the dealers they say there won't be any discounts at the show... Still worth a try I suppose and what's another 2 weeks.

          64k is waaaaay too much. That sounds like full retail
          I ordered mine only 3 weeks ago with the options pack at 8k less than that
          I am in Melb as well

          Other places to try are some of the car brokers. I started with one, but signed with a dealer before they had finished, but they looked like they were going to do a bit better than me, but too late for me
          I tried A1 car brokers.
          No affilliation with them yada yada, but seemed to communicate well
          December 2007 Prado GXL diesel, Option Pack with traction control, rear airconditioning and curtain airbags. Lovells Springs and Bilstiens shocks, snorkel, front recovery points,
          ARB Bar with fog lights, ARB second battery system, sandgrabber mats, Pirelli ATR Tyres,

            Wally,

            You sound a bit like me when it comes to haggling a deal, I am terrible at it that is why I use a third party. In my case I am leasing the Prado so the leasing company did the haggling.

            However in your case if you are serious then I recommend using a third party like these http://www.betterdeal.com.au/ to get the best deal out there. This acts like a reverse auction instead of you bidding on the car the dealers bid against each other to secure the deal from you and all you do is sit back and watch it happen. You pay $150.00 to do it but I reckon it is money well spent if you can save 3 or 4K off the price.

            Or you can use
            http://www.discountnewcars.com.au/To...Diesel-3-0.cfm

            Which clearly shows you the price of the GXL Prado D4D before their discount.

            Cheers

              Wally,

              I got a quote from A1 car brokers just recently. I cant remember the exact figure but it was somewhere between $59k-$60K.

              That was driveaway and for a GXL turbo diesel, auto trans & option pack.

              All you have to do is log onto their website. That's a $5K saving over what you have been quoted.

              Regards
              Dan

                Thank you to everyone for their input.

                Thanks for the PM too and the phone call. Not sure if you wanted to be named, but you know who you are.

                I have a few options to try tomorrow morning. Let the games begin!!

                Interestingly Discount new cars price actually came in at $64450 drive away. Perhaps there was a major price hike in the last few weeks.

                I had all but given up on buying a D4D and was ready to settle for the previous model, there maybe light at the end of the tunnel yet.

                  I've found just ringing around works well some delers will give you a cutthroat price over the phone just to get your buisness.
                  I found the deal finders were way off the mark when buying a Renault for my wife. They also take a pretty heafty cut on the sale, the dealer we bought through was greatful that we went direct to him as the car hunters wanted a grand for themselves.
                  So let your fingers do the walking I say phone calls are cheaper than petrol by far.
                  Good luck anyway the D4Ds may be in short supply but Toyota dealers certainly arn't. :P

                    There was an update to the pricing as there were a handful of additional equipment to each of the models, then there is also the option packs for Manual and Auto models.

                    I just signed off on a GXL D4D manual with option pack for manual which is the addition of full curtin airbags. My base cost was $55290, it was increased by $1100 because of the additional equipment for the '08 spec. plus the additional curtin airbag option another $1000, my final cost is $57390 drive away.

                    Additional equipment for the '08 GXL is:

                    * Leather Steering wheel with audio controls;
                    * Wire harness for fitment of rear camera;
                    * Dual zone front climate control air conditioning and rear cooler with separate control;
                    *Leather shift leaver
                    * Option pack one (Manual Transmission) - Front side and curtin shield airbags;
                    * Option pack one (Automatic Transmission) - Front side and curtin shield airbags and VCS/TRC

                      Ahh yes I have been made aware of the 08 spec model. Dealers are referring to this as the update model.

                      List for a GXL with auto is $58k which accrues the 5% luxury tax.

                      I had a call from Toyota this morning quoting $55k plus on road costs for an D4D auto GXL. Surely on-road can't be $9k.. we'll see... I'll be seeing them on Sunday for a test drive.

                              Latest Quote

                              Today I received my best quote to date after allowing my fingers to do the walking. I found dealing with new car dealers both frustrating and annoying as they all played the sympathy card saying they are not making any money out of the deal. Prices that I received maxxed out at a whopping $72,000. I had a bit of an unrestrained giggle at the dealer in question, who rang back an hour later and reduced the deal to $65,000.

                              I found a car broker who works for me and contacts the dealers on my behalf to do all the nasty work. He is paid by the dealer, not me. One of the same car yards was contacted by him and he has obtained a better deal than I did. (I did not tell him which dealers I contacted to remain unbiased).

                              Here is the deal I received today (12 Oct 07)

                              Toyota Prado GXL Prado Turbo Diesel Automatic
                              Roof Rack

                              Reverse Sensors
                              bonnet protector
                              headlight protector
                              hard colour-coded spare wheel cover
                              ARB Steel colour-coded bullbar (bullbar/airbag compatible)
                              FULL tank of fuel
                              12 Months rego
                              CTP insurance
                              Home Delivery

                              Drive away, $59000 incl GST (I am obtaining a fully maintained Novated lease, so this price will reduce with approx $5500 GST = $54500ish.
