Just as a process of elimination ... can you brace your feet on the floor, while sitting in the seat, and shove yourself back into the seat. It's just possible one of the slide catches hasn't engaged properly.
Mine does it occasionally and tends to make a bit of a racket. The noise doesn't seem to come from under the seat either ... it's like it transfers up the frame.
Nice to think it might be something simple ... and you've got nothing to lose.
Like a parrot? Or perhaps a sheep type of noise.. Or is it that "BBBRRAAAPPPPPTTT" sound followed closely by a unusual sulphur type of smell sometimes tinged with a whiff of P*oh? ops:
A better description of the noise may be needed! :P
Squeaky, metallic, clicking, clunking, squealing, "Brappptting"... hehehe..

Thanks piggy....checked drivers' exhaust cover...no skid marks or stains...did quick visual check to seat and no brown spots...will need to check later as it is p####ing rain here today.
Also, ensured that the seat was correctly engaged.
The sound is more like a 'crack' and seems to be in the lumbar support area.
Checked seat today...found that there are plastic pieces at the lower back of the seat that are secured by rings that move when weight is in the seat.
The plastic hits the steel brackets, causing the noise.
Fixed by using cable ties where the rings are.
Will post photos when I can.
Also, found that all the essential bits like snatch-strap, jumper leads, etc., were covering the rear air vents, located on the floor under the seats. No wonder the (occasional) rear seat passengers were complaining of no air!!
I relocated and cleaned out all the crap that had accumulated under the seats. Should have happy campers in the back seat now!

Im having a similar problem, any chance of putting up some pics?
Im in Ireland, and drive a commercial LWB version. As there is no rear seats and a bulkhead welded in behind the seat, I have to remove the drivers seat completely. However i would like to see what i have to do before i remove the seat from the vehicle.
OK, I have finally taken some photos. Go to link below, photos 3&4. www.strainedbeans.com/prado/
You can see the black cable ties I used to secure the plastic bits.
Also, photo 4 shows the screw that holds the plastic side part onto the seat. Try taking this off if noise persists, noise may be in there also.
