  • Bonnet Scoop

Unless I need to brush up on my forum search skills, I can't find anything about bonnet scoops.

Is there a reason why the diesels 120's don't have a scoop for the intercooler?

I make no claims to know why Toyota has done it this way .... but the diesel has two air intakes tucked up inside the grill ...

... that then make their way to the intercooler.

    Cheers

As the Prado comes off the lexus production line, i would say it has to do with clean attractive lines with an uncluttered exterior. Though i reckon the right styling it would look >>>>>FAST>>>>

Personally i have never understood placing an air - air intercooler on top of an engine. I am sure it cools down in motion, but it still sits on the engine soaking up heat.

I have not seen the setup on the D4D but i assume its similar.

        Thanks Chippy...

        Interesting concept

A bonnet scoop would be more direct; those Toyota tubes may be more forced; maybe it's cheaper to put in two plastic channels than fabricate a scoop and cut and seal the bonnet during manufacture.

I know from owning a TD Patrol that there can be airflow issues across the bonnet if you have a bullbar - factory or otherwise.

Besides all that, the bonnet scoop says "I drive a diesel!!" 8)

... and now after reading Damien Parker's post that wasn't there when I was typing mine that makes sense too. :?

The D4D Hilux's have bonet scoops, Looking at the one on my work ute it should be pretty easy to cut into a prado bonnet. Although the curve of the bonnets may be different?

I think for it to look really nice it would have to be something like the one off a Liberty GT to suit the lines of the car.

              Photoshop here i come.

Would the V6 have a different bonnet or will it also have the same bonnet but now have unused intercooler scoops?

                :?:

Same bonnet, the ducts would be attached to the sub frame before the sound deadening is attached.
