GXL Toyota Tool Kit

Just wondering if anyone knows what tools go in the empty spaces on the tool kit in this photo. The area is outlined in yellow.

The kit as shown was in my car and I'm just wondering if there is anything missing or if the empty spaces are for tools to suit another model? My Prado is an August 2007 build GXL (2 weeks since it was delivered to me).



Used the screwdriver to replace a globe in a driving light already. It failed after just 2 weeks but globes can be funny like that. Who knows, it might not blow again for 10 years.

Anyway, just curious about the empty spaces in the tool kit.

Since you have a D4D my guess is the "missing" bits are for petrol models. ie spark plug spanner etc.

I am no mechanic, but that is what it could be, it is a long piece of metal tube about 10 inches long and a hex shape end which i think would suit a spark plug and the handle to go with it.

That's the plug socket - a long 8" tube spanner with a rubber grommet in the end for picking the plugs out of the depths of the engine, and the other clip is for it's handle ... sort of like a really cheap tent peg ... shiny and nigh on useless ... unless you're up to your eyeballs in mud and have to get the plugs out. ops:

Well its definatly a tube spanner (dont know if its for spark plugs) and an L shaped tommy bar. (use i have no idea)

Is yours a petrol or diesel model? Mine is petrol.

My kit doesn't have a tool in that space either, mine is a Diesel.

It certainly looks like the mystery is answered.

It's empty on the diesel models because its the spot for the tube spanner for removing spark plugs.

With limited storage space, I think I'll use it for spare globes.

Looking at all the empty space on the tray, I think I might have to do a redesign.

I reckon if I replace the extension handles for the jack with real 1/2 inch square drive bars, a ratchet handle, mmmmm

Got me thinking.

I should create a replacement tool kit with quality tools that holds more and fits into the same spot.

My dealer told me on the walk through that the spare bits missing in the tool kit are for petrols and dont stress. Sounds like you worked it out though.

Mine has the other screwdriver there. The flat blade.
