  • Return to Center Steering "shock and spring"???

    Anyone using these? Would like to know what the advantages are having one and is it worth wild getting one?

    What are these called anyway?

    I have only seen them fitted to rock climbers and competition vehicles.
    07 Upgrade GXL D4D, Manual, Dune,Sov Bar, BFG's, SG11, Redark dual Batts, Extensive Aux wiring, Stebel, LED stop tails, IPF HID's (my mod), 240V Inv, ARB Comp, GME UHF,TPMS, Safari snorkel, GPS,Hilux washers, 40l Engel in 30% pas pos,homemade A/C cond protection plate, polyairs.

      Prado doesn't have a live axle front end.
      No need for a return to center damper/ spring.

        Its nothing to do with live axle. The older IFS hiluxs had steering dampeners. Its because of rack and pinion steering, there's no moving rods or drag links to mount to for one.

            To answer your question...don't bother with them even if you could fit one. I have seen many of the coils snap and they can also cause overheating of the power steering pump which then starts to leak. Not a cheap fix.

              If you want to increase your 'return to centre' action, you can increase your wheel allignment caster. Is this the sort of thing your trying to achieve?

                Like Wally said and I had thought, extra stress on the power steering!
