    Thinking about buying a new prado glx 6speed. just afew questions.

    *I know theres a minimum of 3-4months wait on the turbo diesal, is it really worth the wait? Bearing in mind i want to tow a car trailer.Its that the missess dosen't want to wait.

    *Is the transfer case chain or gear driven?

    *When the transfer case is 'locked' in high or low range is it a constent split of torque 50/50 front and rear?

    *Whats the highest suspenion lift you can go with the IFS before you start running into problem? (knowing a proper wheel alinement is needed afterwards).

    MY two bobs worth... traded a VYII HSV Clubsport for a GXL Diesel Auto and i am blown away by the engine. Torque Rules! THe D4D gets off the line soooo efffortlessly, and tows like theres nothing there... and as quiet as a petrol. I tow a Camper and soon as i got delivery blasted off to Kakadu. Dont miss the Clubbie at all.. ESPECIALLY at the bowser... average 10litres/100k. Hunt around and find a diesel.

      Diesel is the only way to go for towing in any car low down torque is unbetable you won't even know your towing a car trailer.

      Transfer case would be gears for sure.

      Don't know about the others

      There are some diesels about for imediate delivery just ring around.

        Yes. Planetary gears for the reduction and a chain drive.

        When the transfer case is 'locked' in high or low range is it a constent split of torque 50/50 front and rear?
        Yes, with the center diff locked it is a 50/50 split. Unlocked in straight line driving it is set at 40/60. The Torsen LSD center diff changes this more in favour of the rear as required (eg; accelerating out of a turn)

        Whats the highest suspenion lift you can go with the IFS before you start running into problem?
        Most off the shelf suspension kits are around the 2 inch mark (depends on your kerb weight/accessories fitted) With a little custom work (packers/spacers) you can sqeeze a little more out of it but not much.

        I've seen pictures of one with about a 4-5in lift (on here I think) so I guess if you have enough money to throw at it the sky's the limit. This would require some major engineering work I would think.

        I wonder when we are going to see a live axle conversion done?? :shock:
