  • oil pressure gauge

    Hi,
I'm looking to fit an oil pressure gauge. Nothing to do with the whole copper/aluminium washer thing really, I just plan on keeping this thing for as long as it lives and would like to fit the pressure gauge.

    So a few questions :
    Has anyone done it ?
does anyone know the best place to connect ?
I'm planning to leave the elec pressure switch for the dash light in place, does anyone know its location if I was to fit a tee/adaptor here ?
what is the max operating oil pressure ?

    The LC is a 2007 3L D4-D : 1KD-FTV
I plan to fit a mechanical pressure gauge.

    Thanks.
    Cir.

Just a thought, maybe the electrical pressure switch isn't a switch but reads analog values and sends it to the ECU and perhaps the oil pressure could be read via scanguage?? Just a thought...not sure if this is the case

Top of the mornin' to ya Cir!

A senior TMC tech guy told me recently that in 30 years experience they have never had to refer to actual oil pressure in new Toyota's. Can I say that in reference to the whole copper/aluminium washer thing with injectors & how it can glogg you oil pickup.....It shows!

Mate I can't help you on the best guage, but from my experience it is a great idea! Go for it.

By the way, I heard in Ireleand this was Injector leak/Screen Clogg was a big problem, how was it handled by TMC over there?

        Howiya Landuser,
I've heard the oil pumps are pretty strong & reliable (that is once the oil can get to them !).
we had / have the injector washer issue here alright. In fairness I think Toyota Ireland acted on it reasonably quickly and changed the washers on anything that came into a dealer for any reason, it fell short of a recall so I imagine there are those out there would may not be aware of the problem and dont get any work done in toyota dealers who may get hit by the problem yet.
Toyota UK took much longer to implement a similar plan but I think both Toyota Ireland and UK have covered most if not all of the cost of rebuilds where seizures occured.

I'll have a root at the weekend to find the existing elec switch on the block and see if I can get a tee adaptor to fit, the rest of it is easy.
By any chance does anyone have a fiche or exploded diagram of the 1KD engine ?

I tried the scangauge before on it but doesnt read at all although I've heard some slightly newer ones do, so thats not an option anyway.

        Cheers
        Cir.

          G'day Cir,

Well its good to see that Toyota were replacing seized engines on this issue in the Land O' the Green! what about the sunburnt country then?

Mate I do have to mention that Downuder "I'll have a root at the weekend" is more the words of an overly confident bloke,
unless you mean you'll do that then go looking for your pressure switch?

'May the road rise to meet you. ... May the sun shine warm upon your face

P.S. I am sure some of the guys can give you clues on the pressure switch, sound like a damn good idea
