  • Finally a rear bar from Kaymar for 120

    Hi

Went to the 4x4 show in Melbourne today and they had a rear bar fitted to the 120 Prado. Its a real neat unit. There are 3 options with the bar.Single wheel only, dual wheel or single wheel and twin jerry can holder. It also comes with a tow bar so dont get a factory or after market tow bar fitted if you plan on getting a rear bar(it already has one factored in).

Compared to the opp lock or strong arm rear bar it does not look as bulky not does it cut into the left or right guards on the sides. The example shown to me was dual wheels and it required no effort to open for it runs on some sort of ball bearing setup.

The arms can also be removed so you are just left with a steel bar for when you are just doing city driving and when you go bush you just fit the swing out arms and attach your wheels or jerry can holder back to the arms.

The bar will not be released untill January 2008 but they are taking orders.the price was about $3200 - $3400 depending on what set up you go.

One other thing. You can adjust the arm so that it can take different tyre and wheel sizes,so you dont need spacers. There is also a bracket set up to take a rear work light.(thats 2 things).

    Regards Rob

It's not mine. I have an ARB rear bumper and I am getting together with a friend to build a swing arm tire carrier.

One thing that I have always asked about these types of bars for the Prado is "does it shake around as much as the front bars?"

If it does all the ones I have seen do not have much room for it to shake before it hits the body.
I had my rear bumper off the other day and the rubbers joining the body to the chassis are the same as the front rubbers.
So Im worried they would shake.

Maybe the rear frame is more rigid than the front so doesn't shake.

Im interested to find out tho, as my rear bumper got a little dinged up the other day.
Reminds me of my safari in Africa. Somebody forgot the corkscrew and for several days we had to live on nothing but food and water.

We were discussing the Kaymer rear bar here about a year ago, saw one locally on a couple of Govrt prados at the service dealer.
Havent they been around for ages?

I have the rear ARB bumper on my FJ Cruiser and I have never heard a peep. It bolts to the frame at 8 places and rests against it.

Jeff, it does shake around - but I don't think it's as much as the front.

The fibreglass corner panels on my rear bar have around 10-15 mm clearance from the body and they certainly touch when I get cross axled (tried it on a mound at my place!).

When first installed, the clearance was down to 5 mm in some places and I could hear it rubbing when off-road. Haven't noticed any sign of rubbing on gravel roads since increasing the clearance.

I can also see the spare wheels moving with respect to the body through the rear window!

That Kaymar is a nice look

Just noticed the void warranty claim.
If you dont use there tow hitch you void your warranty.

Seems a bit drastic doesnt it?
