  • Remove water seperator

Am doing the 80k service and need to replace the fuel filters.
Regarding the one in the engine compartment, how does one remove the water separator unit from its base?

It doesn't look like a normal spanner would do it, not that I have one that big anyway. All those profiles look like they are designed to frustrate those without a "colour co-ordinated proprietary Toyota tool" (-Click image for larger version

When re-fitting the water float sensor you just smear a coat of diesel on the new sealing rubber o-ring and tighten it tight by hand as tight as you can and it will be fine.

The pressure on the fuel filter (Diesel model under the bonnet) is not that high so no fears of leaking.... If you swing on it with the adjustable pliers when re-assembling you will go to hell and back again when you change it next time.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers

PS The same also applies also when fitting the fuel filter cartridge to the purge filter housing
