  • Carrying an Oztent on the roof basket

I talked to an Oztent salesman at the Caravaning and Camping Show last week about buying an RV4 for our Cape trip next year. I was a little concerned about the length (2m) being carried on the roof basket. He said a good way of protecting it would be to put it inside some PVC tubing. Has anyone else done this?

    cheers

Check Oztent website. They have a pod that fits their tents. Only issue may be your roof basket length.

On a recent hi-country trip a friend of ours bought a pod for his tent..Is a good thing even has a small roller fitted just inside the the door to make it easier to put the tent away...Cost a packet though !

Why go an Oztent? I went down the Oztent path a year or so ago.....They sound good on the DVD and web, but in reality they cost a LOT of money for something that weighs a tonne and is way too long. For half the cost you can go a Blackwolf tent, easy to setup, less weight and more compact. Maybe a rooftop tent would suit you better.....check out 4wd supplies, they have Red Dog Offroad Rooftop tents going for only $950.... http://www.4wdsupplies.com.au/roof-top-tent/

Your friend's initials wouldn't happen to be MP and drive a 95 series?

For a around 30% less have a look at getting a Rhino Sunseeker II Awning complete with the Tagalong RV5T. Great combo and the tend when packet up will fit inside your roof basket, and the awnings great for the sun and rain. Have a look a Roof Rack City there prices are very good at the moment

Here is the link for the rhino rack roof cage, perfect size for an rv4 oztent, http://www.rhinorack.com.au/AccSubCa...ket_335_9.aspx. Or you can do what I'm going to do for my old man, make a cage as others have done. Cheers samo

Wouldn't this need to be permanently attached to the awning/car? If you wanted to setup camp then go off anywhere, the tent would have to be packed away as it uses the poles for the awning?

Thanks for the feedback. I won't be going the rooftop tent path as I want to put the second spare, chairs etc on the roof basket. Will check out the Blackwolf tents.

                        cheers

G'day Jim the Blackwolf tent is awesome with a type to suit anybody you won't be disappointed with the quality either but from personal experience go online as no one gets close price wise alternatively use the online prices to haggle them down

I take two spare upright polls and a spreader pole, they fit in the tent bag, and use these in place of the awning when on the move. It's still quick and easy. Than down the track I'll build on getting the 30 sec. oz tent for trips to places where longer stays are planed and zip the Tagalong to that for an extra room for storage.
