  • Would you pay extra $1500 for dealer warranty?

    Hey

    Recently bought a 07/08 Vx.

It comes with the dealer 3 year warranty free which is a limited warranty.

We have been offered an extension of the new car warranty for an extra $1500 which is not limited.

Would you pay the money to get the extra warranty?

    Ta

If it is a D4D definately. If it is petrol, probably, if you have the coin. I got it for mine (petrol) but paid way less than that.

Its a petrol and its a Toyota New Car Warranty for 3 years.

I highly doubt it is Toyota Extra Care which is the factory warranty extension as that is required to be purchased prior to the original 3 year warranty running out.

        For a petrol, I wouldn't bother.

Mine is just about to get 4 new injectors courtesy of my extended warranty which cost me $1800 for 3 more years or 200,000km.

I'd laugh at them and walk out. My brother has warranty on his colorado and the suspension was 85,000km old and sagged 35mm in only front right, they said sure we'll fix it for $1400. There is always some bullshit excuse to get around it so i wouldnt bother wasting your time mate. But if you feel its what you want then do it.

The suspension in my prado had sagged 3 inches in 45,000km... It's a consumable, of course it's not covered: you'd be a muppet to think it should be.

just went with the deluxe 5yr AWN warranty with mine (petrol) the toyota 5yr one was another 1500. one thing to note is that the toyota one covers cosmetic thing like factory faults with the plastic peices.. of which there are suprisingly many

Personally I just worked it into the deal and we bought 2nd hand. I'd rather have some cover to argue with the dealer about than none at all.

As wooley said no consumables will be covered so if you break a fan belt thats yours to fix but if the A/C compressor fails you may be OK depending on what is covered.

Mine came with roadside assist as well so with the missus driving everywhere with the 3 crazies it was a no brainer for me.

if D4d then definitely. i purchased mine direct from Toyota Insurance "Factory Approved Extended Warranty Insurance"
3 year extension up to 150,000km. Its not the "new Car Warranty" but still pretty good. So far i have claimed 2 front shocks, 2 cv boots, gearbox solenoid, 4 injectors...I paid $850 for mine

BIG BIG WARNING ..........Just paid to get my injector seals replaced [ $900.00 ] and forgot to tell them I took out extended warranty til one week later. They told me at Grafton that it was too late , and thet I had to inform them that I had this xtra warranty because ''Toyota Extra Care'' is a different division and doesn't show up on their computers... Good on you's eh , what a cop out excuse.

I would be taking that to consumer affairs.

I paid for the extra warranty when buying my 120 D4D 10 months back....already paid for itself. It is not funded by Toyota, but by Swann Insurance (well in WA anyway). From my experience, Toyota don't know you have it as they are a third party...like normal car insurance. Toyota don't even know what it covers, they need to contact Swann on each claim. For example, they fully covered the engine mounts and water pump, but not the flushing and replenishing of the fluids.

I'd try going straight to Swann Insurance as they hold and manage the policy.

x2. I think it would be worth a bit more examination and follow-up with the insurance.

I got the CMI extended warranty here is SA. Had a long chat with the salesman, explained by mods and we agreed to reduce significantly and agreed some mods were not covered while others improved the vehicle and reduced their risk.

Already had the water pump replaced so its mostly paid for itself.
