  • Windsor V8 into Prado

Here's an idea to fix my D4D engine woes: stick a Windsor V8 into the Prado. I've seen it done on a few FJ40s and 70 series ute. I reckon it would eat almost anything if I drop the 347 fuel injected motor from my Cobra into the Prado. At least I would have no more diesel problems, lots more power and 180 litres of premium to keep it going. Might even bolt the side - pipes under the steps too.

the Lexus V8 would be the go, aluminium block making them lighter and they seem to be popular in the Hiluxs
or would the Cat 6.5lt V8 diesel they put in Patrols fit over 600nm of torque would be fun.

It might be thirsty but it would be such fun. And more reliable than the blown D4D that I have, or rather, the Toyota dealer has in parts at this moment.

I would love to stick a LS3 in mine...6.2L of heaven its light and there are a heap of performance parts and tuners available. Cant see why it wouldn't pass any emission tests it does in a new HSV ?

The windsor would be the way to go, the Clevland is a wider motor so probably wouldn't fit

                        Cheers Andrew

Not quite the same but this bloke fitted a 5.0 litre Cobra into his 4runner. I went round to his place in Kalamunda a few years ago when he was working on the disk brake replacements. Not sure what his qualifications were but he did all the work himself and everything he did passed over the pits. He told me the inspectors wanted to send him packing but they could never fault his work.

You should look for the Lexus GX 470 engine
                            petrol 4,7 L
                            4663cc
                            V8

                            As per standard in USA.

the lexus v8 I think would be the pick. reliability second to none. otherwise you could always find a ls3 or l98 v8 out of a commodore and see how it goes.

either way it's going to be expensive haha! but would be interesting to see what you come up with and end up doing in the end
