  • Relocation of AC Condensor Pipework?

A few questions regarding this one, and its all due to a pending modification that I'm looking at maybe going for in the near future but I want to make sure that I have exhausted the various possibilities before commiting to one final idea.

Is pipe shown in the following two photos, a single pipe with no further internal capiliaries or similar?

I'm thinking of having the AC system pumped down and disconnecting the pipes for a minor relocation to the new location, shown below.

But I don't want to start the job unless I know that it is a single pipe, and that with a little heat applied to it while disconnected that it wouldn't be an issue adding a couple of extra bends to redirect it.

Any metallurgists out there see an issue with heat and bending?

Any reason why the AC system would not be able to be pumped down topped back up?

    Is it a standard pipe?

    Thanks fellas.

Interesting, I don't think I have that pipe as that hole is where all my winch wiring is routed...

My understanding of these pipes is they are actually a pipe within a pipe and very fragile. As you have suggested I would get an aircon guy to review before you touch it.

Heating and bending a pipe, any pipe is almost sure to end in failure. Even a slight bend in pipe is difficult without kinking unless you have the correct tooling.

You will need an air-con specialist to remove / replace the gas, so I would investigate with a professional about modifying this pipe.

No surprises with either of the replies there guys...

I had heard that it might be a pipe within a pipe, but have no confirmation. And was going to ask a fridgey mate to assist with pumping down the AC. It was the subsequent bending of the pipe that had me wondering...

Dave, think we need to get on to our Toyota contact for further information!!!

I'll be getting the mod done by the professionals in a couple of weeks or so, the hope is that it will be completed before the GTG. Just wanted to make sure that I double checked some of the alternatives before proceeding with a final location...

This will be a corker of a mod if I can get it done in time!!!

A mate of mine that does this type of work all the time, reckons it's going to go from the $110.00 mark to around the $350.00 mark.
              Roo,

already increased as of 1 July. Just had a leak repaired in the Rodeo. Ouch.

I thought everyone knew about that, crikey Tony Abbott has only mentioned it about 6 hundred thousand times

                  Hi Matty
The pipe in your photo is a standard alloy line, it does not have another pipe inside it. A/C guys can buy that alloy line in rolls and maunfacture pipework to suit any application. The fittings are avaliable and they just need to be TIG welded onto the lines. I cant see why a good A/C repairer shouldn't be able to do it for you.

As for Gas pricing, R134a (which is the standard automotive A/C gas at the moment) has almost trippled in price due to Julia. The alternative is a product called Hychill which is a drop in replacement for both R12 and R134a systems, and requires no system modification.
This Gas HAS NOT CHANGED IN PRICE and if you are told otherwise by a retailer they are ripping you off.
For specs on Hychill see http://www.hychill.com.au/.
It runs colder vent temps and lower compressor head pressures and I use it for all my work.
                  Good luck with the mod

This can be done no problems. If no one is willing to do it in alloy then get them to do it in a flexi rubber hose obviously with correct fittings either end. Any aircon shop could do this for you if they could be bothered. I fitted a MK 4 unit to my 73 corolla under dash unit when I was doing one up. All piping was done using flexi rubber piping never had any leaks in the 3 years I had the car....Cheers Steve
