  • Foot Rest Replacement Help

Hi please help a girl out
How do i take those annoying little plugs (white things) out from the footrest on my car.
Hubby snapped the footrest off while trying to get a better view of the trailer he was reversing (and broke my car )
I went to the wreakers, scored a new one but now can't get the plugs to release themselves from the base of the car. I have tried just leaving them there and attaching the plate to them already in postion but I think they need to be attached to the foot rest then attached to the base of the car???
or am i going about this the wrong way totally?
any help would be greatly apprecated (even if it's just a link to an old threat I haven't been able to find
    thanks heaps

BTW I finally have my Prado (totally stoked!!!)

Most Toyota foot rests I have dealt with in the past are attached to two studs permanently set in the floor by the factory. You need to remove the two black plugs on top of the rest. This is done with a small blade screw driver in the gap provided on the edge of the plug. The foot rest should then lift straight up but will be tight as it is pushed over the two studs that have little teeth.

    Hope that's enough info.

okay so it turns out to be simple after all. - The white plugs screw off the floor (so obvious in hindsight) so that didn't help 'cause you can't screw the foot rest in. Then taking Hazza's advice that "it lifts straight out" I applied force downward - more than I would have before and tada - new foot rest installed - thanks heaps Hazza

Beat me to it, I did the same job yesterday. Yes, white studs screw out and once they are attached to the foot rest, they simply push on to the two threads in the foot well. No more standing on the foot rest
