hi guys
any one come across this before i have just recently bought a 06 grande v6 with only 90ks on it with suppoesed full service history. the log book has been stamped at roughly 5k intevals for a service.
the wife ran me last week saying she cant see out the back window coz of all this smoke coming out she had pulled over and turned of the engine. i raced down their to check it out once i got their started it up and sure enough pumping white smoke out. organised a tow car and trailer and towed it back to a mates work shop to check it out. looked like some oil had got past the valve stem seals, she said she was parked on a pretty steep hill that is the only thing i can think of.
was about to do a comp test on it and for some reason i decided to pull a rocker cover of and this is what i found ( see pics')
did some ringing around for some prices, rang toyota ready for it $19k for a long motor, found a 2nd hand one for $4,500. then managed to find one on good old gumtree picked it up for $300 car had been in a fire just melted the intake manifold but internaly was in good nick, stripped it down heads were good nick got them service and building my old bottom end as the one i bought had water in one of the cylinders marking the bore. was lucky that the engine hadn't siezed yet form the blockage at the pick up. just glad i wasnt going up the beach or on holidays.
all in all long hard lesson learnt but it will be like new when im finished with it.
just wanted to put it out there for future v6 prado purchasers dont trust the service book make sure its all true.
