Shattered Window - Cause?

After collecting DD1 from school today I was driving home and with a huge pop and splintering sound my back driverside window shattered completely. Most of the glass went into the cargo area, some at DD1's feet. Now my Q is what do you think caused it. Was travelling about 90, humid sort of day but only about 24. There was a line of other cars going past in the other direction and two cars in front of me. When I dug around in the glass in the back I couldn't find a rock or anything else (although the road I was on is known for them - 3 windcreens in 3 years .
Ideas I have had are weak glass, rock being flicked up by passing car (is that possible?) someone throwing something out of their car at mine, although they'd have to be game because there was a line of cars, other suggestions? Is this something other people have experienced?
I have only had my car for a short while but LOVE it and am hoping this doesn't happen again

I saw a YouTube video once of a 120 driving some rough stuff and the rear window spontaneously broke. That was quite rough though, I assume you were on the tarmac. Body stresses perhaps?

Something must have hit it - hard. My money is on a rock or on other object being thrown up from their tyres while passing. When you consider your speed, the speed of the other vehicles tyre rotation, the combined closing speed between your vehicle & the object is very high. Plus, the force (from a small point of contact) is immense when applied to a fixed pane of glass.

Hope you've got insurance coverage for it. If you've already done three windscreens in three years, I'd say you should've finished your run of bad luck by now.

That one was Mal56 on one of our Border Track trips, he was driving like a complete nutcase and his Maxtrax slid sideways and busted the window from the inside.

That pop sound was it but my glass went in and I was on a nice smooth road. Definately no bumping around like that ... and OMG to the Hill climb, not today, tomorrow or next year either

Toughened glass can just "go". I had a toughened glass door at home do just that- made a helluva noise and mess. I also saw one go in a commodore at work as we walked past. I am told that toughened glass has a lot of stress in it. Don't know if that is true or not. Neil

Surfing eBay tonight and I saw this person selling windows for 120's. This one is for the RHS rear glass but the ad says the seller has all glass for this vehicle.

I had mine "explode" (the noise was quite amazing), one night driving home from dinner @ Dads, thought the kids had done something, but after stopping realised it was probably kids hidding in the bush with a slingshot or like. Went to the local Coppas to report it, as I was reporting it they said they were just getting a few reports of something going on in that area, so I suspect I was right!! Bloody kids
