  • Removing V6 sticker and polishing alloy bar

    Hi Guys,

1 - Any idea of the best way to remove the 4000 v6 Sticker on the rear quarter panels of my 2005 Prado, want a cleaner look, plus they are faded and looking a bit weather beaten?

2 -Also any tips on polishing my sovereign bull bar looking very faded and dull. Would silvo chrome polish do the trick?

    Thanks and merry xmas

    Nick

      1. Soften up the sticker by soaking it with some metho.
      2. I used to use chrome/metal polish of a paste type on my old 95 series bar. Get a length of polishing cloth, apply the polish along the length of the bar, wrap the cloth around the bar a couple of times and bring the ends together, pull the cloth to and fro around the bar and it will polish up nice. If it's really weathered you can use some soapy steelo pads and finish off with a light buff. If you are really keen, you can use a buffer attached to a drill or similar with buffing compound but that can get a bit messy. I used to be a polishing nut but now my 120 Prado has a metallic charcoal coloured ARB bar.

The sticker should just peel off, mine did with no softening up or anything. It didn't leave any residue either. If yours is brittle and playing hard to get just use a caramel wheel.

I used a little eucalyptus oil to persuade my V6 sticker - just to soften it a bit as it was quite brittle and no where near being able to easily peel it off. I replaced the passenger side as it was faded - picked up a new sticker on ebay.

          Lodgey.

If you use Steelo pads make sure they are the stainless ones..........the plain steel ones will contaminate it and you will get rust stains on your alloy bar otherwise.
Another way is to use handfulls of alfoil scrunched up and some compound added.......but thats for really weathered alloy.
