  • Window air reverberation noise

Has anyone noticed that if you drive with one of the second row windows down (and other windows up) you get a hideous reverberation from the wind? It tends to happen at any speed over about 50Ks. It is quite loud. If you lower any other window it cancels the noise (obviously due to a changed air flow).
It is annoying since sometimes we want to drive with the front windows up and a rear window down for the kids, but this tends not to work because of the noise. Any thoughts or solutions?

This is common to any car I have driven. I have found that opening the opposite window at the front, just a crack, is all that is required. E.g. kid opens back-left, you open front-right (just a crack).

The "helicopter" effect pretty much affects all vehicles... So your Prado is not exhibiting a strange issue.

On the other hand, if you have a sunroof, and you open it fully, and it causes a helicopter effect with all the windows wound up, then that's a issue.

I've seen it before on aftermarket sunroofs, so unless buying a car already fitted with an aftermarket roof, I'd never take a brand new car to get a roof put in.
