Hi Robn, congrats on your Prado.

Personally I would pick it up now, cause you have waited oh, so long. It wont matter much at all when you decide it is time to sell as it is still plated December 2007 model. Even if you wait until early January to register the Prado, the difference in value at time of sale is negligible.

Go get your car and have a blast.

    Happy 4WDing. happy new year

All the other accessories that the wallet wont pay for yet.

Each to his own mine is ready to pick up tomorrow but I'm going to wait until the new year.
However I'm too busy to play with it anyway and I'm planning to keep the car for a long while so resale hopefully won't come into it.
Technically it's a 07 build but if it's not sold till 08 it's an 08 car in my book but it's really splitting hairs. :P

The ONLY date that matters for resale is build date.

Dealers will BS you into thinking that an 07 build and 08 compliance makes it into an 08 vehicle.

Try using that argument at trade-in time and prepare to be laughed at.

I'm with you Grandeman, if I was to buy a car and it was plated 07 I would believe it was made that year. Everything else is uninportant.
Likewise if my car was ready to pick up today, I would be driving it tonight.
          Just my opinion.

            robn i sympathasize with you.
I was told that anything built in December would have an 2008 plate but at the end of the day Grandeman is right they will take a percentage off for the age regardless of wether it was built in Jan or Dec.
Trying to argue the point will probably not go in your favor anyway, so i personnely would pick it up and enjoy what you have been waiting for a long time.

So the moral of the story is pick up your Prado today drive it forever because it will go forever and be happy!
Sounds like a plan pity I'm working for the next few days.
ah well enjoy your new car robn mine will still have to wait.
The guys are right I'm sure the dealers would argue the other way when they are selling it on their yard.

                Hey Rob,

I have found that buying cars at the end of the year you can generally get very good discounts on end of year stock. When you do come to sell, try to buy/trade in the end-of-year sales period and you will always get a similar discount. This runs from mid November until stocks runout in the new year.

As previously mentioned, you will find that the build date is the MOST important date, compliance is the date the vehicle arrives in Australia. If you decode the compliance plate you will probably find the Manufact Year (MY08) is 2008 but has a build date of 2007. This is a trick most manufactures use to clear old stock.

Besides as long as you have the post August updated model I think you will find this model change date more important than a 2007/2008 DOB.

                Regards
                Neil

Its completely different how model years run down in OZ. Here (USA) I purchased my FJ in March 2006 as a 2007 model. I have had it for almost 2 years and it still technically a new vehicle.

IMO I would pick it up ASAP. The wait for new toys kills me.

Get the tires muddy for me.

There are three dates involved in buying or selling a motor vehicle.

                      BUILD DATE

                      COMPLIANCE DATE

                      DATE OF DELIVERY

The build date is important to you as the purchaser as this is the real age of the vehicle. I have seen vehicles Built and Complianced a year apart when I worked in the automotive trade. They get built in Japan or wherever and sit in the holding yard, then on the docks waiting for shipping, then on the ship, then in customs, then at the Aussie holding yard, then finally to a dealer where it may sit again for a long time.

Dealers will always sell you on the Compliance date (unless it's an Aussie car), but will buy from you on the built date when trading.

If it's 2nd hand then they will sell you on the Date of Delivery as this was when the first purchaser physically picked the vehicle up...

They are a cunning bunch those sales people, but I suppose they do have to make a living....

Now, back to your question, if it says 07 on the built date then it's going to say 07 on the compliance date as it already been through that process of compliance in Aus.... So to have 08 on the Date od Delivery, unfortunately for you isn't going to make a lick of difference!

DRIVE THE BLOODY THING ALREADY!

                          Hi

Went to the dealer today to take alook at the prado being detailed and tow bar being fitted and to process finance.Got there about 11 am to find out the car was still in the holding yard at the docks and hasnt even arrived at the dealership.Dealer tells me that due to the Christmas break it has slowed things up (Which is fair enough but it was him who told me that it would be ready today) and that the car will arrive soon

note:The car got from Japan to Melbourne quicker than it has taken from the docks to the dealership

Regards Rob Thanks for your input with this thread
