  • The minister for finance

So after much to and fro, I think we've decided to keep the Prado. (for a bit longer anyhow)
Might get a new camper/van instead, but in the mean time the minister for finance acknowledges that since pradie will hit 310,000k within the fortnight, that perhaps it could use some money being spent on it.
So the minister for finance has said I've got freerange on 5k to spend.
What do I spend it on? I think my first thing will be new suspension, so there goes 1500/1800k in one hit LOL
Keeping in mind at the end of June it will be doing a 10/12k trip to WA and back

And if your minister said you had 5k, what would you spend it on and why?
    TIA

Depends what is already done to the car and what is old and needs replacing (no comments about driver or passengers). The first things I did were bar, spotlights, suspension, snorkel and tyres on the 150 when I bought it and that came to a little over that number. Spent a $ or two since then as well! I guess these are what I would suggest for the trip you are planning but an auxiliary battery is up there too, if you don't plan water crossings then you could substitute auxiliary battery system for the snorkel. Also is you do the fitting yourself you can save maybe $600 and that means more bits!

If you have some of those already then you need to look at how you will be using the car. Compressor is good, steel steps... the list goes on. And on. I have also heard that it is not mandatory to spend the lot on upgrades but I have never seen that happen. May be an urban myth!! I think if you do a smart search (google+>Pradopoint+mods) you will find threads like this

      http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...ds-which-order

Where there are a few opinions.

Here's the order I would do it given the trip:

      Suspension including airbags
Tyres including extra spare if you are going well off the track on the trip
Dual battery and power to the camper
      Bar and lights
      Compressor
      Snorkel and breathers
      Steps
      Etc

Assuming that you already have a towbar and that you have all the other gear you need. Have fun.
