Now it is sagging rather sadly, I was curious if anyone had done this repair before. Hopefully Toyota built in a weak spot and I'll only have to replace a little plastic bit, but I have a bad feeling the answer would be to replace the entire mirror assembly.
I did a similar thing. If it is just the mirror insert, this can be replaced at a cost of about $60. Its a bit fiddly to do but if I can anyone can. To replace the whole unit costs about $300 (ouch!)
Hey Mate, Ive busted the mirror in mine ! Ive tracked down a replacement from Toyota , rather then paying them a scary amount ....how did you get it in ? i dont really wanna break the replacement one trying to get it in !

    Really appreciate any help !

its cool. Was really easy actually.

its just held in with clips at the bottom and side and then hooked in up at the top.

I need to replace my side mirror

Can anyone please do a write up on how to remove a side mirror?

A search of the net revealed this http://www.kwmuth.com/techsupport/pdfs/21000890.pdf

          I think it's a yank Lexus, am I right?

            Re: Broken Wing Mirror

Yea, I bought the side mirror chrome covers with LED from ebay.

Prior to the purchase I contacted a person in Poland who had bought a set, here is his reply:

"what can i say: I am reseller, they covers not for me, but for my client. 3 days ago a customer called me with the information: hundredfold thanks, perfect fitting, high quality chrome , they sense Chinese production but still very much is satisfied"

I'm attempting to workout how to install them.

I think I have everything figured except for where to connect the wiring?

I had a look at the front blinkers and they both have a Plain Red and one white black striped wire.

I expect those are the ones I need to hook into, howeever, I was wondering if there was anywhere I connect to them in the cabin?

Can anyone please assist?

Despite the lack of interest in helping me with this, I will attempt to ask one more question.

I had a look at the side blinkers, they have the same white and black wire, however, instead of a red wire it's blue.

I think it would be easy to tap into the side blinkers, would it work?

                Re: Broken Wing Mirror

When I bought my Prado the driver's side mirror was vibrating within the actual chrome outer. I thought maybe it was an easy fix and got a mate who worked for Toyota to remove the side mirror.

To do this he actually took off the whole inside door panel which from memory was needed to disconnect the electrics for the mirror. I wasn't a member on Pradopoint at the time and rather than taking photos I was drinking beers.

Someone who has taken a door panel off should be able to help more.

By the way, I found out it wasn't an easy fix - the black plastic mount holding the mirror in the chrome outer was broken, basically requiring a whole new mirror - $350 later...

i'm watching keenly but haven't pulled the doors apart so can't contribute much (there is a thread somewhere on here with pics on where the bolts are).

tapping into the side indicators would be fine, that's all I've done for the LED's on the ARB Bar at the front (tap into the wires for the front lights)

if you've got a multimeter it would be pretty easy to work out which is the pos and which is the neg. just flick your hazards on and play with the wires till you find the one you're after.

                    Bit harsh

You are the first to do a mirror change on PP by the looks of it.... Don't forget to take plenty of photos for your "how to" post.

                      Re: Broken Wing Mirror

I received my two mirror covers today.

I have not installed them yet, maybe on Friday.

I am surprised that they are of such good quality and the fit seems perfect.

As a test, I removed the side indicator lamp (just clips out), connected the ground wire of the mirror to the white wire of the indicator and the positive to the blue wire.

Put on the blinker and away it went in full amber colour.

The install should not be too difficult.

Remove the door trim as per a link I added previously (Lexus GX470), thread the wires through the mirrors drain hole, stick it over the existing mirror with the 3M tape supplied.

Thread the wires through the rubber hose thingo into the main body of the car.

                      Remove the side indicators.

Tap each led mirror cover wire into the indicator on each side.

Replace everything and Bob's ya Uncle.

LED Mirror covers installed and operational.

I used this post to remove the door panels viewtopic.php?p=26242

                        The rest was easy.

Some snaps of the finished job.

As not too many seemed interested in this mod, I didn't post detailed instructions.

If anyone decided to install these, send me a PM and I will give you some tips.

                              Re: Broken Wing Mirror

My experience so far is to avoid Mr Toyota Spare Parts - some turkey broke the mounting so I was left with a mirror hanging by its cord - a bit of rescue tape and it was back in operation including the motor drive. I contacted Toyota Spare parts in the City (Sydney) and was told $600 to replace - instead of choking I searched the forum and found the name of some spare parts guys in Melbourne - no worries we have one for $250 plus $20 freight - to my surprise it was a geniune brand new toyota spare part in original box. I have booked the Prado in for its 10,000km service and I asked how much to install - $110 so for $380 instead of $600 I have a brand new side mirror and a spare mirror with motor drive as a back up.

I got some on ebay for $200, just search for prado side mirrors. they're after market ones but they look the same.

Does anyone known how to make them fold? I have a GXL 2004 and there's no button to make them fold but the mirrors have a motor in them. Is the wiring already there like the overseas models?
