  • Tow hitch for recovery ?

I've got a spare tow hitch that I use with a shackel for a rear recovery point in the tow bar reciever.

    Is this OK ?

If it's not rated I wouldn't trust it. You can always just slip the strap into where the hitch fits into and use the pin to lock in. Less parts to go flying if something let's go.
96 3.4 GXL, 2" lift, Poly airs in rear, 32" BFG muddies, Lightforce 170's HID's, TJM rack, Awning, Twine on board shower, GME uhf, Dual batteries & monitor, Storage system, ARB fridge, LED rear lighting, Safari snorkel, Brown Davis bash plate, Ironman winch bar, Runva 11xp winch, Roadsafe recovery points, ARB compressor, Tyre dog monitor, AJ's sliders, Hema hn6. The to do list is getting shorter.

      Good question I think.
Again it's not rated, but it would likely be a strong as a rated point.
As long as your using rated bow shackles, & no towball it's likely ok.
But there will be other strong opinions.

I correct myself, it is rated to 2500kg.
Now many of us are putting say, 4500kg point in a 2500kg receiver.
        What's the difference? Not much!!!
The only thing that will let go is the strap.

Of course it's rated, it's rated to 2.5 tones exactly the same as the towbar you are snatching from. If you are happy to put an 9000kg snatch strap on a 2500kg towbar and snatch a vehicle weighing 2, 3 maybe 4 tonne or more then it's fine.

          Cheers Andrew

Good points re: not rated and less parts to fly. Had wondered if the hitch pin would bend in a recovery and then be unable to remove it ?

Definately would be using rated shackles from the recovery kit and no towball.
