  • VSC TRC, VSC OFF, SLIP INDICATOR, and Engine warning lights

Wife just pulled up the driveway, and informs me that these lights have stayed on, after she started our 2007 Prado 120 series D4D. Does anyone have any ideas?
Vehicle has just had it's 97K service at Toyota.

I've assured her it has absolutely nothing to do with the long list of modifications I have done to this vehicle.

I'm sure it is something simple.

    Would appreciate some help.

Thanks for that Steve. Now you mentioned it, I had noticed lately over winter, that the truck had being cranking a little slower than usual. The wife was blaming my 10 inch intercooler fan, that runs continously on startup.
But now I think about it, it could be the alternator failing, and the battery not charging. Anyway, I can easily check the alternator tomorrow, to rule it out.

97K seems rather low milage, for an alternator to fail. Oh well, guess I can add that to the list, which already includes two complete sets of injectors and one airconditioning relay.

Have you towed a trailer recently . If you have then you will need to replace the brakelight fuse as it has shorted out through the trailer plug . Very common problem

Not any of the fuses. Battery is fine, but the charging output from the Alternator is low. As the one in my vehicle is an 80 amp, does anyone know if the 100 and 120 amp alternators have exactly the same mounting holes?
I thought if I was going to replace the alternator, might as well put one in that cranks out more juice.

Does anyone have any thoughts on that? I only run a single battery, and the only additional things I run off the vehicle, is my intercooler cooling fan, and occassionaly a Waeco fridge/freezer (for the odd time the wife lets me go fishing).

Just a quick update for anyone who is interested. The said lights that came on, randomly went off again, and have not come back on. Everything tested normal with repect to the alternator charging voltage, and the battery was fine. The Toyota mechanic suggested that it maybe the brake peddle position switch, and that I needed to test this to see if the brake lighhts were working. Unfortuantely, the warning indicator lights went off, before I had a chance to check this.

So, when it happens again, as I am sure it will, I will check the brake lights.

Check the ABS sensors, especially on the rear wheels. If you have been doing any dirt/stoney work lately a stone could have hit one of these sensors and bent it. Happened to me- all lights on -all systems related not working and then sometimes they would. My mechanic picked up the fact that a rock had hit the lhs rear sensor and bent it just enough that it only made intermitent contact. He bent it back into place but it only worked for a while. I got a good 2nd hand one from the big 4wd wreckers in Newcastle for about a third of the Toyota price and had it in a day! Cost about $120 and took 10 mins to fit - no further problem. If you have access to a code reader it will tell you straight off what it is. Most mechanics will have one. Neil
