  • After market remote central locking on 120 GXL (Master keys lost)

    Hi guys,
    First post, great forum!
I've just purchased a 2003 GXL and the previous owner lost both master keys (the ones with remotes). After a visit to Toyota they suggested the only way to get remote central locking to work with new keys was to replace the computers and get new keys etc etc and that it would cost over $2000!!
I was wondering if I could take advantage of the manual lock / unlock switch inside the drivers door and hook it up to a 3rd party 2 channel 2 relay remote kit such as this:

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/12v-2-Cha...d6fc94f&_uhb=1

I'm thinking that I could just check and see which two wires are shorted by the switch on unlock and which two are shorted by lock and connect the Normally Open and Common pins on the relays to each. The hazzards obviously wont flash with this hack but I can live with that. Has anyone attempted something like this before? Anyone have a wiring diagram of the drivers door internals?

    Cheers,
    Adam

I'd get a quote from some of the good locksmiths which specialise in cars. Some claim they can programme the fob.

After market keys including cutting cost around $80 from a locksmith in Perth, not sure of the electronics though.

Probably not much help unless you pop up to Sydney, but there's a locksmith up here that can program you up a new remote key without a master key.

Did you get the grey key? If so, that is the master key that remote keys can be copied from. Genuine remote keys have come down dramatically in price. Let me know if you need more advice as I have just been down this road.

I have a 2008 standard prado, factory central locking but no remotes. I have all the original keys, none came with remotes.

I fitted a e-bay kit and wired the indicators in as we'll, all good and cost very little.

In saying that if you can get a replacement key and program it it saves adding extra wires and control boxes and keeps the car original.

Burrows75, can you put up a link for the ebay kit?
I also have a 2008 base model with factory central locking and I cant get remotes.
once you wired the central locking system up did u use a genuine Toyota key?
