  • Speaker Size - KDJ120R

    Hi All,

Can anyone please advise what size speakers are in the Front and Rear of the KDJ120 GXL Models.

I am looking at changing the system - Head Unit, Power Amp, Powered Sub and Speakers.

I welcome suggested setups as well

          Hi All,

          FYI, I did search FIRST!!!!!

All I found was a Topic on Speaker sizes, but they were talking about the 90 series, and pre D4D, 120 series, going back to 2007
Hence why I ask the question here.

Mate dont be too surprised with the search function not being adequate. ...most online forums are the same engine therefore are poor in their search ability....go to google then search anything but add at the end the word prado.....

Unfortunatly there a few members that take delight in suggesting "search" funtiin but most that are asking the questions need the help quick and do not realise the obvious and the lack of ability the said button has.....

Be patient....its a good site snd most mean well....its easy for some that have been on here a while....so they are suggesting in good faith and with humor the search functions....

                Hi All,

                Thanks for the info.

I was just advised to look at Alpine Speakers.
                Front: SPR-69 (Type R) 6x9"
                Rear: SPR-60 (Type R) 6.5"

Power Amp: Alpine MRX-F35 650W Max Power. 85W RMS x4
                (I may look at MRX-F65, which has 1200W Max Power. 160W RMS X 4

                Powered Sub: Focal Ibus 20

Unsure about Head Unit at this stage.

Will the above sizes fit straight in or will modification be needed?

If money isn't an issue... Focal make excellent speakers (you might need to check what depth you have to work with though). Too dear for me so I've fitted Infinity speakers driven by an Alpine iPod only hu.

I have an Alpine CDE-W235EBT head unit and my speakers are Focals. Also run the Alpine 100w in-line amp and stearing wheel control interface. All work was done by Fairfield Car Radio in Sydney.

Can the front tweeters be changed?

Sure they can, anything can be changed with a little effort. I think focal do a dirrect bolt in toyota specific replacement. Morel do a 6x9 component set that adapters would need to be made for. Most 6x9s are all in ones so that is why most would just leave them where they are.

What's the general consensus on amp placement in the 120 series? I know the usual sport is under the passenger front seat, but as I have flooded the car before in a river crossing mishap, I'm hesitant to place one so low in the car.
