  • Stupidity and incompetence comes to mind?

After waiting 3 weeks for a new ABS Brake controller, being advised not to drive over this time. I was forced to take an emergency trip to Melbourne when my Dad had a heart attack. That bit all went well and no issues with brakes. I finally get the car booked in for the replacement to be installed and get a call just now to say Toyota ordered the WRONG PART!! (anyone need a master cylinder for a 120?) I was asssured and garenteed that it would be fitted before I leave for Brisbane on Friday, now I'm told none available?

OK so now that I'm driving to Brissy on Friday with my camper trailer I'm less than impressed. Lucky I have a good solid electric trailer brake controller. In fact enraged would be a good term to describe how I replied to the head mechanic! I suggested they get off their ass and get me that brake controller by scouring the country, first place I suggested was Sci-Fleet in Brissy as they have in the past been able to get all sundry of parts for my previous Toyota with no waiting. (cross fingers)

How do you maintain sanity in situations like this.

    Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhh Shitters!

Seems after our 'chat' they managed to find a Brake controller down the road at Blacktown. The mind boggles as to why I needed to wait for three weeks when there is one just down the road?

Now lets see if they can fit it correctly and quickly tomorrow.

Has anyone tried Sydney City or Ryde Toyota? Seems I'm in the market for a new dealer.

So I guess the brakes still worked with the ABS controller not functioning?

                Hi Peril,

I've been taking my Toyota's to Terry Shields in Parramatta for the last 15 years and can highly recommend them.

Guys thanks for the replies, yes the brakes still worked but you gota shake your head at the processes here. They could have simply fitted the correct part over a month ago (likely one in Blacktown all along) if they knew their ass from their head!

I'm moving to Brissy in December, I will probably get all my work done up there from now on, but if it fails down here your suggestions will be useful.

Back with the Prado, they replaced the ABS controller finally, I had the injectors cold tested and they say all very good (what ever that means). They could not supply the test printout even though I asked they do that for me. Why always the secrets with these guys, a simple printout would give me the current baseline to reference in the future.

No sheets/seals changed as of yet, I'll wait until I move up north and ask a trusted PP mechanic to perhaps do that, and at the same time anything else that Toyota 'missed'.

                    So simple yet so hard.

They probably didn't do it (given your current experience with them).

                          The saga continues!

After traveling from Sydney to Brissy this week I awoke to a Christmas tree of lights on my dash. Time to phone a friend as this is getting ridiculous, on the blower to John (##########) and he offered to take a look into my problem on his Saturday off. First thing he found was a loose brake line, seems Toyota in Sydney was slack again!!! It was also nice to see they spilled brake fluid all over my inner guard, over the rails and generally all over the place. They also didn't bother to replace the dust covers on the brake bleeders. Slack as a pack of whores, no care for my car or the safety of the passengers with that leaking brake line.

There was also another problem, after Roo fixed the leaky line we found another system error, faulty brake light switch! This gremlin caused a pile of issues, car would stick in park, cruse control would not work reliably, more warning lights on the dash and NO trailer brake. So being late on a Saturday we called it quits and downed a bottle of Sparkling Red (John doesn't have brake light switch's in his tool box).

I took the Prado to Sunshine Totota today to have this switch replaced. They were very helpful and had a switch in stock, replaced and tested on the spot. As of this moment I have no warning lights and it all seems to work, I think as long as I never visit that 'other' Toyota service center in Sydney's south side it should keep working.

Thanks to Roo, best ever phone a friend, he even dropped the inter-cooler just for a look at the EGR whilst I was there. Seems I have a good one and no major blow by at this time. He checked the injectors tolerances and they are all very good, must be that clean Shell Diesel I've been using. The final tip we got from looking at the history in the computor was it appears my auto fluid has never been changed and was overheating whilst towing up to Brissy, I'm guna change that fluid and likely best to fit a auto box cooler.

Again thanks to John and PP, in this day and age is a very pleasant surprise to find people willing to help because they want too and not expect payment!!

                          More red wine OTW Roo

From the dealer in question following my letter of complaint

Hi Stephen, I have spoken to my Manager and we have agreed that we will check and adjust valve clearance to your Prado.
We will not charge any labour to do the job only parts, parts total will be $69.70
Please advise when you would like this done.
Not sure I can bother with this given the past record for attention to detail.
