  • My 120 a heap of SH?T

I purchased my 2007 Toyota Prado from Peter Kittle Toyota in SA, traded my petrol Grande for a diesel Grande,
From the first day I picked up the car it was the most miserable experience and the worst money I have ever spent in my life. I bought a dud. Lucky for me I spent $1200 on Toyota extended care warranty which has just run out. And this car is just about to cost me my marriage. My wife said to me back then when I traded my almost new petrol Prado that cost me $65k to the diesel $75k model, WHY do you need this diesel car, just keep the petrol model. My father always said to me Listen to the woman, BUT never do what they tell you to do. Well this time I should have.

The start of my problems with this car.

    1. No power, so I took it to Bill Buckle Toyota here on Sydney's Northern Beaches, they advised that I had tampered with the injectors, and it caused the injector to fall into the engine which has caused (GET THIS) $20k worth of damage to the motor, well <Profanity, removed by Admin>! ....$65k and now another $20k your kidding I said to the service manager. nonetheless after it sat in their work shop for 6 weeks yes guys that's right 6 weeks and calls every day to them asking about the warranty, they said they had never seen this happen and they said that I tampered with it so warranty would not cover it. So I said to this imbecile. I was as furious as <Profanity, removed by Admin>, if its not fixed in 5 days I'm going to do something that Toyota regrets. Bang 3 days later it was sorted, Toyota warranty fixed this problem. They said it is like as new, I said we'll for the amount of money I paid it would want to be.

    2. After leaving the workshop, I noticed some lights come on the dash and thought nothing of it, these lights were ABS/ VSC TRC / VSC OFF/ traction control etc. so I left it for the weekend and decided to call them on the Monday and let them know. They said bring it back and they would reset the computer, all done, and another week later the lights started flashing again. Back to Toyota, and they started blaming me for installing a new ARB Sahara Bar, Lights, diff locks, new suspension, Anderson plug, compressor, inverter, you name it they wrote it down and showed me the problem code which was wiring.
I was fuming that they again started putting the blame on me. Any way it wasn't affecting my car, other than having none of the above functions working, it really didn't worry me, the lights were coming on and off like their was a short somewhere.

2 years on and I went to engage REVERSE and I needed to use SHIFTLOCK, and now is a every day episode. Same Toyota service at BIll Buckle Toyota has told me it is a wiring problem and comes from all my accessories, 2 days out of warranty.

Any way after all that I decided to take it away from this service centre to another Toyota dealer still on he same page they said it was a malfunction with the (GET THIS) common rail wiring lume which would probable cost around $1900. I asked for them to speak with Toyota Warranty and they declined, so now I'm up <Profanity, removed by Admin>, creek again.

This week I took it to bill buckle Toyota for the 70000km service, and pink slip for rego, they declined the pink slip because of the lights coming up on the dash and said I needed to get this repaired, at Toyotas rate of $132 per hr and not knowing if it can be resolved.

    What a bunch of <Profanity, removed by Admin>, .

I want every one to know, DO NOT BUY A TOYOTA PRADO they are the biggest heap of <Profanity, removed by Admin>, that I have every come across, and Toyotas lies and and deceiving attitude make out as it is the consumers fault.....

    SHAME ON YOU TOYOTA.

I will make sure that I will contact every authority possible to make the whole of Australia know what Toyota and their employees do to the people of Australia.

Sad to hear your story but you obviously chose to continue with the car playing up rather than get the problems with wiring sorted by whoever installed the bits and pieces. It happens so get it fixed and move on. As for the Toyota Prado being a pos I think there are some thousands of members here and many more in Australia that wont agree with you.

Id suggest highly that you aquaint yourself with the rules of this forum. Particuarly those in regards to profanity and also defamation of which your borderline with that dealer.

Id suggest by your first post and the way you are handling these issues that you will really not get far with any resolve with the poor attitude you have, I can guess why the dealers dont want to help you out if you treat them like you say..
Seriously making a threat to a dealer like that, you'd have the cops on your door before you got home..

I find it curiously odd that you have had these apparent issues for over 2 years without seemingly attempting to get them fixed. So I feel there is a lot more to the story than the cryptic side you have posted here.?
An injector breaking off into the motor? cant see that happening without a heck of a lot of help? or is it the injector issue that have plagued a few others, and I'd guess like the rest of your issues, you've let it slide until its fatal if so? 2 days out of warranty, toyota would look at without an issue, seen it happen plenty of times, but depending on your attitude, maybe you cut your own throat there??

Id actually suggest that your post is pretty well a trolling post..

I can assure YOU that there is at least 19950 other users on this site that love their prado.. Sorry you feel yours isn't what it is what you wanted..

Whats your whole service history like? Full service schedule on time and mileage? By a registered dealer or mechanic?

Always 2 sides to a story..

A mate of mine has a 120 D4D with over 200,000 no issue. I have a 150,000 with 40,000. Simpson desert, the Flinders, Hay river track, no issue. Next year the Kimberley. Re: Toyota. In all the years with the same dealer I have never had a problem. I treat them all like mates, know their names and have enjoyed their service and their willingness to help. The dealer? Sunshine Toyota.

PS: go through this sight.......look at the many Prado owners that are completely satisfied with their cars. All cars can have problems.........I had a diesel 100 series that had a noise and clunk from the drive train somewhere that no one could find......drove me nuts. Anything that has moving parts can have problems........Perspective mate perspective.

This is my second Prado from new. 73,000km and engine blew last year, 8 weeks to fix. All good now at nearly 110k. Still a great car.

Pull the dash cluster out, remove the bulbs that light up, put cluster back in, then go get pink ticket done.....I had issues with my 90 series and it was common for the head to go but I paid the 4k to get it fixed and life went on, I now own the best prado that I have owned so far and love it. Yes its a 4L petrol 120 series (after owning two 90 series). If I could afford it Id have a 150 in the garage but were updating the wifes car instead so mine will be a while away now (couple of years Id say) As piggy has mentioned Id be extremely careful of your post with mentioning names as these blokes have more money then probably the whole lot of us here on PP and they will nail you if they want to, and these people do read forums and things.....Even if you edit your post and remove the dealer mentioned might be a safer bet for yourself ?? If all is as you say I can understand your frustration but leaving it for two years with your lights flashing and/or the actual safety features not working is not only a risk while driving remember your insurance company could also refuse you payment if you were unfortunate enough to have an accident (hope you never do) they could refuse payment if they find these things not working prior to the accident......just my opinion... Cheers Steve

If you spend some time looking up information on this site you will probably find that the problem with the dash lights will related to the trailer plug , an electrical problem this also affects the shift lock problem . I have had this problem several times after hitching up a trailer . Possibly dirt and dust in the socket . Clean it out with WD40 and check the earths
03 grande v6 , with added stuff that makes it go places . RTFM people !

                            Looking up? Reading? What's that?

I must say I do understand how frustrating Toyota can be with their new car warranty & even parts warranty.
They do love to blame other accessories. & treat you like you broke it.
These are good vehicles, you might have got a dud or u are a dud?

My solution? I own a 2003, no warranty! I expect to have to fix it, I expect to throw some $$$ at it, but you know it's good, & they just keep going, that's why I bought it! If your trying to convince us they are no good, I think you come to the wrong place.
Sell up & buy a Kia.
