  • My 2008 Diesel - what should I do?

A large number of mods taking place this week - but interested in what priority I should place on:

    1. Catch can - intend to have it done.
    2. Water alarm - been recommended. Is this a MUST?

Nothing is really a must, plenty of people drive stock Prado's for years without issue, however my low coolant alarm is easily the best mod I have done. It saved me tens of thousands of dollars when I put a hole in my radiator in probably the most remote place in Australia you could possibly get. Very cheap insurance IMO.

    Cheers Andrew

I guna pick up Techstream for my 2008 to monitor those pesky injector values, a peace of mind tool. Also a small hole camera for peeking at my oil screen during oil changes (more peace of mind). These two issues make your engine go boom, the rest are not so bad.

Plus the posts on thread #1

Add a Prefilter for the Diesel (you can't have to much clean fuel)

Some things to check, if it is Auto and has only been service by Toyota (like mine was), then likely it has NOT had the trans fluid changed. Toyota don't change the fluid in these cars as a normal maintenance routine (dumb). I changed mine this week @ 90,000km, and it was BLACK, much smoother driving now

Keep an eye on rust spots, under the rear door seal is common, and around the top of the front door rubbers as well.

There are LOTS of post on the weak points on PP, don't get scared by the injector posts, just absorb and understand the issues so you can monitor them.

OH and 2008 is one of the better ones, I assume it's Silver like mine?

OGF key things are check the injector feedback values and the oil pick up screen, these are discussed in much length in the diesel section. Keep your fuel system clean and use quality diesel fuel. Whether you add the pre filter or not is up to you, I see no harm in it. Catch can I believe is a must but I think you are there already. Make sure you fit a genuine unit so that you can buy spare filters (if you go for that type) anywhere in the country.

Definately check the transmission fluid if you have an auto and don't listen if the dealer says sealed for life, insist on a change if you have 60,000 or more km on the odometer. The 120 is a great beast. As is the 90 AND the 150!!!
