Sorry AJ. one day I will read all the replys properly before I post, I just reread the reply and read this ""Those are the chassis pins for the Sovereign Bar, if the bar is still fitted there should be 2 long bolts, one each side going through the front of the bar and screwed into these holding them in place"" your reply, so I have just answered my own question by reading your post,,,,, dickhead I am.....Cheers Steve

Ok, so I have some sort of update.
I have spoken to Toyota Australia regional office. I can't say too much at the moment, as there is much water to go under the bridge, so to speak.
If it survives to limp in to a Toyota dealership on Monday in Brisbane, it will be looked at, and Toyota will no doubt seek to assure themselves I am genuine with this issue - which I am.
I have alerted them to this thread, and I thank them for their professionalism in hearing me out and genuinely seeking to understand what this issue is and how it has come about.
Of course, there has been discussion around proving how this came about...
I reckon it would be worthwhile hearing from others if you have either had exactly the same issue with the wear on the radiator, or you get under the car and find your pins are unsecured and bolts missing etc. Please feel free to pm me or post on here your experience.

Mine did not have the long bolts installed after the bull bar recall [no surprises there!!] Fortunately I actually had 2 from the old mounts which I had replaced when they failed, well before the recall.Equally fortunate was the fact that the chassis pins in question hadn't moved over into the radiator.Moral? Check dealer workmanship in this area . I bet there are a lot of recalled ones out there which were done without the long bolts being put back in. Worth taking a look if you have had the recall done. So Hoody I presume you don't have the big long bolts like in my second picture which is the ones AJ was referring to ?? While I'm at it, its very rare I hear of good workmanship from some of the dealers we all deal with but credit where its due and must say Penrith Toyota are the ones who did my bar recall and is aligned spot on and obviously I still have the bolts in place so it wont lead to the issue people are having where bolts are removed and not replaced or pins removed, and chewing out the tanks on either side of the radiator......Cheers SteveFace lift 150 Prado V6 auto. Steve M - no long bolts, no circlip - these pins have been flapping about for some time it seems - just a matter of time...Originally posted by Steve M View PostSo Hoody I presume you don't have the big long bolts like in my second picture which is the ones AJ was referring to ?? what actually happens is these pins go through 2 chassi 'plates' - there is enough travel for it to move across to the radiator and the rear of the pin (where the circlip is supposed to be to prevent said travel) 'drops' between the plates and wedges there. the 'block' front of the pin mechanism is wedged upwards against the radiator plastic side, on an angle, so the sharp edge just starts wearing the plastic away.
we asked someone from the island for some wire, and made our own circlip to hold them in place for now - a temporary fix of course.

Wonder why they leave the bolts out ?? It's part of the attachment.. When you mention the circlip is this only put in place if the bullbar is removed as there are no circlips on mine as per pic but obviously the bolts are holding in place..... Cheers SteveFace lift 150 Prado V6 auto. No mods yet

Steve M, I can tell you why the bolt had masking tape on it. Makes the bolt head fit firmly into the socket while it is being inserted(makes it easier to line up). Those bolts can be a real pain to fit sometimes! Maybe thats why they were not replaced in a few cases, "arrrrhh can't get those bloody bolts in. Oh well they're not really needed are they?" Bit dodgy. Can't we just keep travelling?

Those bolts have a smaller diameter head to aid in lining up the tip into the hole in the chassis pins. Makes it even more odd why they don't bother to put it back in.Originally posted by Whitey1 View PostSteve M, I can tell you why the bolt had masking tape on it. I reckon the procedure for carrying out the recall is missing this step. However, it is certainly in the full bullbar fitting instructions

yeah I realize its the pin that does the damage.. sorry. Both pins still have circlip attached and this is the bolt that goes into that pin. I'm sure its not a good thing that the bolts is almost out though. Couldn't turn it with fingers so fingers crossed they didn't cross thread it and just leave it like that.Last edited by blackvx; 10-10-2013, 09:10 AM.Andrew
