  • Engine/gear box rattle

    Hi All
I have a 2005 v6 auto with 215000 k on the clock that has developed a rattle when under acceleration. This is not the normal noises from the exhaust and injectors. It only happens once the engine is warm and I accelerate hard enough to kick the auto back to 3rd .I cannot duplicate the noise by just revving the engine ,it has to be under load. Has anyone else experienced this issue or know what might be causing it. Any help greatly appreciated.

Further investigation has helped determine that the rattle is coming from the engine.
Again there is no rattle or knock at idle or free revving the engine in neutral. It only makes the noise at between 80k and 100k,and only when the auto changes back to 3rd.
It’s a metallic rattle like a lifter or a failed bearing but if it were one of these problems I would expect the noise to be there all the time.
    Any thoughts or comments appreciated.

It's not the engine mounts is it?

Thanks for the suggestion ,I will check the engine mounts. Noticed today the noise seems to be a little worse ,can now here it in forth gear as well. Starting to sound more like a bearing but as mentioned the engine sounds perfect at idle and when revving in neutral. I am suspecting maybe a gearbox input shaft bearing or something along those lines, it’s very hard to pin point where the noise is actually coming from.
