New prado owner, few questions

Hi Ppl,

I recently purchased a 2003 GXL 4.0L Auto, duel fuel. With a total of 36000km's on it.

As you can imagine it is in pretty good condition, the bloke i bought it from never drove it in the rain since new, (he had his work van to drive if it was raining) and the short stick had never been moved until i got it home and took it for a run.

*Has anyone ever bought a set of the seat covers from ebay? If so what are they like?

*The cruise control is very sensitive it seems, i have read that most prado owners on this site feel the same, but has anyone worked out how to settle it down?

Im sure i will eventually have plenty of other questions as i drive my prado more and more, as i haven't even had it a week yet.

the cruise is something you learn to live with..

if i have a few passengers onboard, i cancel it (pull the paddle switch toward u) when i go anywhere near hills.

if im on my own, or only the wife, i let it go.

That was good find; 2003 with under 40k

I'm a Prado nooby as well, bought a 2005 petrol a month ago - first time in 20 years a car has been more than a tool. Had a bit more use than yours, 50,000 when we bought it and nearly 54,000 just one month later Great car, does have an affinity for the mud tho :shock: ... but to the point.

As expected the v6 is a bit thirsty ... i note that yours is dual fuel! How do you find it runs on LPG? I would be really interested to hear about your experience. Especially fuel consumption figures and any anticipated additional maintenance costs etc.

I guess if your used to a diesel or a 4cyl petrol the V6 is a bit thirsty.

We were on the beach all day sunday and only used about 27 L all day.
That was with lot of hill work and high revs low range action...

After owning the prado for almost 2 months now, and only recently having a chance to use the short stick, i am very happy with the car, i took it out in the sand dunes will a couple of mates, one with a 3.0L TD Hilux, and the other with a 80 series Cruiser 4.5L Petrol Manual, with frint and rear lockers.

With the prado in stock form as it sits in the driveway, it went further than both of these vehicles and did it alot easier, one of them said i was boring to watch because it wasn't much of a challenge to get up the dunes.

Duel Fuel, it is a good thing i guess, i still have to take mine back to the place of purchase to have a couple of fualty injectors replaced as it hesitates a little from stand still, i am gettin just under 400km around town and just over on the highway, hopefully once the gas system is fixed it may increase, here is hoping.

The amount of go that the V6 has is almost scary to think that it can move over 2t so easily.

Any way im back to reading

Rhys, I hope that you missed a 1 off that figure cause with a 180 litre fuel tank, 400 kms equates 45 litres/100km.

Rhys, I hope that you missed a 1 off that figure cause with a 180 litre fuel tank, 400 kms equates 45 litres/100km.

Mav, with LPG system rear fuel tank gets replaced by 68+ usable litres
LPG tank, which will last you around 400km till empty :wink:

I fixed this problem by fitting Unichip. The car now changes gears much later if at all...

Thanks for the tip lc120, yeah it is about 68 litres of gas for around 400km, so not to bad. Better than 45lper 100
