Does this mean that after a certain period the bar is producing less light? I haven't actually given mine a good long run yet. I'll be driving down the Sunshine Coast for xmas, and I think we will be driving a good portion at night it might get a good 6 or so hours with it hopefully on the majority of the time.

Comparing all the leading brands is usually left up to independent magazines (like what 4WD Action used to be before they started having an interest in selling them).
I've still got a subscription but unfortunately its a bit hard to trust their product comparisons. Even in the past there was a lot of debate over whether they were legitimate.

If you ever come down this way give me some notice and you can come in and have a look at the stuff. If I can get the time we could also check some out at night in a nice quiet area not too far from here that is completely dark (no street lights) and no through traffic. I have quite often parked the Prado in the middle of the road and tested for 30mins+ without seeing any other vehicle.
I'll be down next month and flying in and out for work so the missus and kids get some time down there over the school holidays, so I'll see if I can work out when I have a spare evening and I might drive down if we can select a time that suits both of us. I'll reply to your PM when we've sorted out movements when down there and see if I can work out a few spare nights.

Nope, not yet anyway. WE are still fine tuning the product - hence the reason I am asking for opinions/wish lists etc.
As I said earlier we do not do comparo's to other brands - preferring to leave that sort of thing to 4wd magazines & websites.
I also don't want to be mistaken for a commercial entity on this web site, so any purchases would be routed though our existing distributors such as TJM, ARB, Opp Lock, Minecorp and load more independents around the country.
Once we have the full range of products finalised AND stock has landed I will let you all know. I will also gladly take a few units out on a demo night if enough people are interested. There is a great little out-of-the-way spot not too far away in Wacol.

            Hi there,

Below is a link to the NSW regulations re lights on the front of vehicles.

            http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/registrati...s_nov_2007.pdf

            1) Head lights, driving lights, fog lights etc may be no more than 1.4 metres from the ground.

            2) Lights must be mounted symmetrically.

            3) Lights must be mounted in pairs.

            4) Pairs of lights must be separated by a minimum of 600 mm.

There's a few other threads around that go into the legalities of light bars. But here's (I'm pretty sure) latest for QLD.

              • The lamps should, as far as is possible, be installed symmetrically in pairs to the front of the vehicle.
              • If lamps are not fitted as pairs (e.g. one, three etc), they must be fitted to the front of the vehicle,
              symmetrically about the centre.
              • The lamp/s must be installed in a way that the light produced does not cause the driver of the vehicle
discomfort either directly or by reflection.
              • The lamp/s must only come on when the main-beam (high beam) headlamps are used, and must
automatically turn off when the main-beam headlamps are turned off.

Just realised the link doesn't work. If you just google "qld laws light bars" it should be the first result. It's just a bulletin.

These are heavy vehicle regs, and are not necessarily applicable to 4WD's.

I would love to see a light bar with a warmer light, closer to that of a halogen light (already mentioned, I know. Im simply adding support) I find the glare from the whiter lights too much. The glare also makes it harder to see things that arent in the centre of the lights focus, possibly making it harder to see the mid sized wombat on the side of the road, not easier.
Wish List: Late 120 series or 150 series V6 preferably manual, the funds to buy said vehicle

                    Hi All,

I am looking at getting myself a Christmas Present this year - 1 x LED Lightbar.
                    I was looking at theses - http://www.monsterlights.com.au/ml100ss.htm

It is the max width I can go when fitted to top of my ARB Bar.

                    What do you think?

Nice, look to be the same as the Newpro Tech , Aurora's. (identical specs and looks) I'm hoping to get the 40" bar to mount under my Pio platform unless someone can point me to a more superior light...

No probs, we have all the regs anyways. A lot of our manufacture is in to the mining/agricultural sectors (read non-road registered vehicles) so even though we are mindful of regulations we don't particularly only manufacture to suit them.
Also a lot of the regs deal with fitment more so than the product itself.

                        Cheers,

I have copied and sent your post to my work email and I'll talk with one of the head designers. I do know that LED light is a whiter light which gives the appearance of being brighter, so maybe dropping the colour temp of the light will have a knock-on detrimental effect? Will let you know what they say.

My first light bar I bought was this 20 inch 240w light bar with 10w free chips http://m.quicksales.com.au/Details/17628611/
I originally bought it as work would not replace the failed spotlights on my workouts and I had to many close calls with kangaroo due to the poor light so I bought this myself and it was spectacular. I would say that for my use on narrow gravel roads it is a lot better than the lights on the new workute. It
Has HIDs but not enought spread for my need

What i would love to see is a 4 row 20 inch light bar with all 10W chips. 480w 30-40 thousand lumens I would buy one in a flash for my new prado.

I have also begun the process of putting light bars on my good mates skiing boat. I know it may sound impractical but it would be interest to see how a curved or rotated chip light bar would go. eg. on a 40 inch bar the out side 8 chips angled to the side ever so slightly. Be interested to hear what people think

that's only for trucks mate you are only allowed 1 1.2 from ground level so on top of bar or on roof is illegal in most states.
