  • Bits missing on new car

My inlaws finally got their D4D on thursday after a Sep 07 order and while looking around it i found these faults,

Intercooler ducts missing from behind the grill
Clips holding the rear dust deflector missing, just held on with tape
Front no plate incorrectly fitted to arb bar
    Rear tow hitch incorrectly fitted
3000 turbo decal on RH quarter on angle

The dealer is over 750kms away so trying to describe these problems to the salesman is like bashing your head against a wall, great car but it really takes the wind out of you when you spend the weekend taking photos and writing emails trying to describe parts to a salesman when you should be in the bush trying out the new ride

You must be related to me as I thought that only happens to me.

Good luck in sorting it out.

I'm guessing that they fitted a bonnet protector and forgot to put the intakes back on... dealer issue PRIORITY repair.

Dust deflector is fitted at the workshop, so would be a dealer issue as would be the others except for the sticker. I haven't seen a straight sticker yet!

Get the k's up and take it back for it's 1st service and give em a reaming whilst you at it (not that they will care much!)

      Good luck

What do the ducts look like, I would not know if mine were there or not?

Two black plastic mouldings that pick up from behind the grill (one on each side) and funnel the air up into the double skin of the bonnet and onto the intercooler.

          Cheers

Your 1st service is only a few weeks away. If the car drives OK, wait till then. It probably shows that service team is not worth spending any more money on.

As we live so far away from a toyota dealership they probably figured they would never se us again! She's already due for first service just getting it home!

Picked mine up in October. I had a few dramas as well. But the best one was when I got home, I wanted to check out everything under the bonnet (as you do), pulled on the bonnet release tag, and opened the fuel cap. They were wired up to the wrong release tags.

I tell you what was classic, was the response from the service guy when I got my 1st service and told him about them wired up incorrectly.

He said - "This company is a joke".

I said sarcastically- "You would make a great advertisement for Toyota".

To which he responded - "I do my best".

I could not believe my ears. I don't think he has had a special lie down for a while.

Peel the stupid stickers off... leave em guessing as to what just sucked the doors of their Nissan!

My advice for other forum user when they pick up their nice shiny new Prado.
                            1. Call your sales person the day before delivery and ask him if he/she has checked everything and its ok. The good sales guys at dealerships are in the workshop checking on installs before the car is anywhere near ready. If the TA's see I care - chances are they will care more on the job as well.
                            2. Spend the time at delivery (hand over) checking over your new machine with a fine tooth comb - then the sales guy can get it fixed before you go or at 1st serivce. If my clients take 2 hours on a delivery and they are happy with the new car, then it is worth it. Why spend 4-5 hours at dealerships, plus countless hours researching the car to buy it. Only to tell your sales guy at delivery "I am in a hurry" and only take 25 mins for hand over.

Problems happen, as the sales guy is 100% relying on a Trade Assistant in the Pre-delivery Department to do his job correctly, and this does not always happen.

My advice for Grittle - call the DP if you are getting no where with the salesman.

Don't laugh, I work with a Jumbo Operator and his name is Wayne Carr.
