To start this off, this is THE BEST Prado forum ever.
I own a 2007 VX (V6 4.0 liter) SWB Prado. My car now has approx 182,000 KM. She spent most of her life on the highway, with a few trips (no more than 4) to the dunes, not dune bashing mind you, but going up and down the sandy hills around here. Car was never abused and religiously serviced at the dealer (every 40,000 KM), except the 5,000 KM oil/filter changes.
The car has never failed me in any way and continues to run perfectly. At the last service, the dealer warned me about worn bushes front and rear, but that is about it. Please remember that the car operates in a very very hot climate, which never bothered the car up to now.
My question is: what type of preventive and replacement expenses should I expect if I decide to keep her for another 5 years? Will the engine continue to run strong, or will major components start to fail? Will the engine require an overhaul in the not too distant future? I do have a cracked dash (just about the instruments) and might change the dashboard if I decide to keep her.
If the dealer imported a SWB Prado V6, I would have traded her in but they do not!!!! The 4 door is just too long and too big for my needs. I have considered selling her while she is in good shape and replacing her with a 2013 Jeep V6 3.6 Penstar, or an aging 2014 Mistubishi Pajero SWB 3.0 V6, I just do not like the roughness of the Jeep or the much smaller interior or both cars. Besides, I do not think they can hold a candle to the reliability of the Toyota.
