Sub tank filling issues

We have a cyclone on the way so normal procedure is to fill all vehicles to the max just in case fuel supplies can't get through.
Anyway my wife took the car to the Servo last night and filled the gas tank and sub tank, next thing there is fuel all over the ground
it appears that when the sub tank became full it somehow came out of the top of the tank maybe from the sender unit.
Next thing the Servo attendant comes out and wants to call the Fire Brigade.
After a few minutes the petrol on the ground evaporated (approx 5 litres or so) and she was allowed to leave.
The car is at home now with no signs of leaks with a full tank.
My question is there an inspection cover to the sub tank (from inside the car)
and has anyone removed a sub tank or had this problem before?
In all honestly we have not filled the sub tank in over 12 months as we only keep it half full (the car usually runs on gas)

It would be some thing to do with the way the pipes have been changed over for the LPG. Your wifes filled it up as asked and probably filled it right upto the filler neck/cap ??? Bet the original pipe from the tank up isn't as high as the filler pipe so has spewed over the top ??? (been chopped short) I may be wrong but based on my shit experience's with LPG (which I will never have again) I had similar problem but was in my 90 series. Even on a hot day 30+ would build up in the tank, fuel would expand and drip raw fuel on the ground from the original filler neck (90 series having two inlets behind the fuel flap). Bet if you never fill it full again you wont have the problem !!!. Not sure if you bought it with the LPG already or you had it converted ?? If you had it done Id be taking it back to the person who fitted it. I doubt its any thing to do with sender unit.....Cheers Steve

have found the problem, the hose from the filler pipe to the tank (its a ribbed flexible type hose) has a split on the top ribbing. I'll patch it up for now and order a new hose from Toyota.

Steve I had the same thing happen to mine albeit a diesel, hose was about $50 and fixed in about 10 mins, easy repair. In regards to the cyclone it looks like it is heading straight for us in T.P, spent the day cleaning up and geting ready.

rang local Toyota dealer for quote on hose $104.00 and thanks to this site got a quote from AMAYAMA parts on line (genuine Toyota parts) and was quoted $33.00! pays to shop around and use Pradopoint for advice.
