  • Sand inside instrument cluster

    Guys,
My truck will be having its 1st birthday soon and Ive noticed sand has got its way into the instrument cluster (between the plastic and the dials).

Is this a common problem or would this be a warranty fix??

Never seen it before? I would highly doubt that it would be covered under warranty though.

Not a warranty claim, but an easy fix all the same waks.

I have not removed the instrument cluster on the Prado, but have done so on other makes and they seem all very similar to pull apart.

Just a few screws to remove the console and slowly slide it out and release the instrument cluster cables. When the unit is out, remove the screws holding on the clear front cover and remove.

Big Big hint. Wear cotton gloves when doing this. If you use just your fingers, the grease from your fingers will show up inside the instrument cluster and you will forever notice them. A lint free cloth is also required for the same reason - you don't want little fluffy bits floating inside the instrument cluster.

Reverse to put it all back together. Another big hint, don't over tighten the screws holding the front clear plastic as it WILL crack. Just nip them up.

      Hope this helps a little.

Thanks for that, will give it a go on the weekend & might be a good time to get rid of those light scratches on the front of the plastic.

Just be careful what you use to clean the clear plastic with, I used something at work to clean the new work ute after going bush and getting red dust through everything. The clear plastic ended up with funny marks on it from the cleaner/protector it was a white liquid similiar to armorall.

          Cheers

Sounds like beach volleyball. Sand goes everywhere.
