  • Trim under rear side window removal.

Does anyone out there know how to remove the trim outside under the rear side windows?
I have worked out there is a little press in thing near the rear side doors but how do I get to it?
Do I have to release the window? If so how do I do that, is it the screw in the latch?
Once I remove the push in thingy do I just prise the trim piece up?

I also have to renew the trim on the outside that rubs on the glass when the door windows are lowered.
I have worked out there are some special shaped screws that need to be removed.
Do the windows have to be up or down when removing the trim?

    Hope this makes sense?
When I do it I will try and take some pictures for people in the future.

I tried to search this info but struggled as I don't know the real names for the trim parts.

    Thanks in advance Rob

      Hi
having a similar issue with the black plastic that sits on top of the steel trim coming off on both sides, looked to hard to take the trim off so I just got some Sikaflex silicon and glued it back on
      cheers Stevo

        Cheers Stevo for the reply,
I have spoken to a breakers yard and they tell me you have to take the inside trim off then unbolt the hinges on the glass to access the hidden screw.
Going to try this week so will be back with update asap.

Yeah its a real PITA that you have to remove several things to get to one little plastic clip(not a screw). To get to the clip you need to remove the window, to get to the hinge bolts for the window you need to remove the plastic pillar trim.
To remove the door belt mould(trim/seal that sits against the window) you'll need to wind the window down, remove the torx screw at the front of the trim and prise up the trim. It can be difficult to get off without wrecking/bending the trim, I've got a special tool for that. Try rolling the trim outwards as you go. The door skin has little tags on the inside that the trim sits over. There is a clip on the rear of the trim as well.

This is a quick drawing that might help to explain how the trim fits on the door skin.
Its a pity I hadn't seen this thread on Friday cause I was putting mine back together after fixing the damage that some Bastard did last month when he ran into it!
I could have taken some photos for you, but it's all back together now.

The plastic coating on the trim under my rear windows has peeled off too. Anyone got replacement parts from toyota? and how much were they?

My parts were $200 for 6 parts of trim.
Thats drivers door, passender door, and pat under the rear window.
That was for extremely good condition second hand parts from the breakers here in Adelaide.

Mines the same on the rear glass ,must be some sort of issue with the glue from the factory.I glued it back down with kick grip.

We managed to replace them….sorry no pictures as forgot to take them.
To replace them you have to remove the inside trim that goes round the window.
This lets you get to the bolts that hold the hinges that the rear window swings on.
You have to undo them with a very good friend holding the glass on the out side….dont drop the nuts down the cavity…!!
YOu can not see the round mush room clip along the trim near the door.
Push the middle of the clip and it can be prised to release the clip.
Once removed you can now push the trim upwards.

Do the process in reverse and its finished.
It took about 15mins each side.

Hope my post is easy to follow, Rob
