Hey guys,
For a while now i have had a strange ticking sound coming from the drivers foot well, i thought it was a fan and pressed the mode button on the dash which activated feet and it stopped the ticking. In the last 2 week the ticking has been joined by a sound that i can only describe as the chirp of a chick. So today whilst i removed the brake switch to clean the contacts to try and rectify that problem i thought i'd suss out the tick and chirp sound coming from below.
What i found was two black motors attached to a big white plastic air con module in the centre of the dash. Whilst i could see them i pressed the mode button and noticed that the top motor (which controls the face, feet and windscreen) worked but occasionally would stutter in its movement. So i removed this and gave it a clean inside leaving the grease where it should be and re assembled it all. Then i noticed that no matter what i pressed the bottom motor did nothing. I also pulled it apart and cleaned it up and when i plugged it back in the thing decided to cycle and move, but that was it. Won't move again.
I lined up the two plastic guides for the bottom motor and started my car only to find the air con was boiling hot with no cold air to be found! I quickly disconnected the plastic guide arms and the a/c returned to some level of coolness again.
Here is a picture of the motors, Does anyone know the function of the bottom one? IF not can someone stick their head under their dash pressing all their buttons to see at what point the thing moves? If anyone has experienced this before please share how to fix it OR even test if everything is functioning ie, pinpoint if it is just the motor or wiring or what..
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
P.S its off a 2004 Grande
