Personally I don't think that the injector check is the be all and end all of diagnosing a problem, the results of the test can vary from day to day, so they are a guide at best. Also what does in spec mean? +/-3 is the spec, so if one is at 2.9 its in spec, but only just. If you have a D4D and its rattling more than you would like, its almost a certainty that's its the injectors.

Don't get fooled into thinking that Injectors are going to last forever, they are a consumable part, always have been and probably always will be. If your engine has done 140k then I would say regardless of any test you should look at changing them out.

Check out Baileys Diesel Group in the vendor section, they can supply a set of injectors for $1100, they will come with new seats as well. If your handy with the spanners they have a DIY guide to self install and its not that hard really. If your not handy or confident it should be about 4 hours or so work for a good mechanic to change them out.

Change them out now and you should be right for another 140k.

      Cheers Andrew

You had gunk on the screen did you tell Toyota about that? Did they say it is ok? Gunk is usually the sign of the injector seats passing. This will only get worse. Where in Q are you? As AJ says the injector values flop around. Ask them what the total volume was as well, it oculd be that the injectors are borderline but the volume is way out. There is more to this than a yes they are within specs, you have symptoms.

I will contact Baileys and get myself a new set. Although a little concerned as people have been telling me if the rattle continues after the engine is warm it is likely it is not injectors. What is your opinion? People are talking cracked piston etc. Arrrrgggghhhh!
