  • Beware if you have a new Prado Grande in Sydney

After waiting for 3 months fro order date I picked up my new Grande on 29th Jan this year. At 1:30am on 12th Feb heard the alarm go off. Some SOB(s) smashed the side window (pathetic alarm system) and ripped out the Optitron. It won't be back on the road until next week. The Specialist Auto elec installing the new unit (plus a sensor-activated alarm system!) had 2 x brand new new Lexus's in similar condition (sans Optitron) to be repaired. This guy has replaced 140 in the last 12 mths!!! ... no ... it's not him doing it... it's apparently widespread across Sydney. I wish I knew before I registered my Prado. Beware if you have a Grande on order ... get a decent alarm system like "Autowatch" which is activated upon window breakage because someone knows where you live and they covet your Optitron!

Just did a quick google search and apparently the GRANDE's have got a flash dashboard cluster which comes from LEXUS.

A bit of a google search talks about the Premium Optitron combi-gauge instrument cluster that automatically increases the visual contrast between the meter and the meter reading in multiple light conditions.

In my english that means something like .... an electrickery dooverlacky that makes fancy stuff happen on ya dash.

Why some neanderthal fragwits would want to nick it ... sorry, don't know .... unless it makes for a you-beaut lighting controller for an indoor hydroponics marijuanna crop :?

          Cheers

Yeah ... that bit's got me wondering. What is so special about the optitron that makes it such a target ????

Or maybe it's all of GX and GXL owners ... who don't have one .... but now we do

Clearly there is some kind of black-market for these thing-a-me-jigs, but I can't imagine a pub-conversation that heads toward... "you want an Optitron to go with your car... I know someone who knows someone who can get-em cheap"

Sorry for the Toyota goggledegook! It's a combination GPS, Bluetooth, CD player unit which sits in the middle of the dash of the Grande. Nice unit (was)!
