  • Does the option pack on the gxl auto have down hill assist??

    Hello all,
Placed my order for my second 120 series, this time I have opted for a D4D gxl auto with option pack 1. My question to all 08 owners with the option pack 1. Do they have this gismo ? The person who sold me the car looked at me blankly and said 'dont know' and went on to say that he hasn't seen one this year......which brings me to that waiting period...we all seemed to have to endure, maybe including the dealerships.

      Do not believe so.
I am supposed to take delivery of our Auto GXL with Option Pack 1 on Thursday after more than five months.
The poor photo copy of "Toyota National Sales Specification Walk-Up"
lists Downhill Assist Control only on the VX
Option Pack 1 on ann Auto GXL is
      "Front side A/B and CSA
      VSC/TRC"
      Which I translate to
Front seat and side curtain shield airbags
      Vehicle Stability Control
      Traction Control
      Cheers

The pack with stability control and traction control should (I hesitate to say 100%) also include downhill assist if it is 2008 build. I have a GX (picked up Feb this year) with both option packs and it has the downhill assist.

That would be correct. Toyota calls it the DAT package.

I took delivery of my 08 GXL d4d auto with option pack 1, about 9 days ago. And yes, it is fitted with Down Hill Assist. The dealer was as surprised as I was to see the button on the centre console, as the Toyota information made no mention of it. Haven't seen it operating yet - the handbook states that the indicator light will come on when it's activated. Others have suggested that it activates only on a predetermined angle of incline. Time will tell. I've found the D4D and auto box holds on hills at idle much better than my previous v6 auto did. Maybe due to different torque convertor settings?

You need to be in low range with or without the centre differential locked. The light illuminates on the dash, if you try to activate the button in high range the light flashes and then goes off. Works in D, 4, 3, 2 and L though best in L. Doesn't require any particular grade of hill. Start moving forwards down the hill and it takes over. As per the manual do not solely rely on the electronics and keep your feet near the pedals.

Thanks gents for that little surprise
I have bought the Prado mainly to tow long distances and am new to the concept of low range.
Would low range be the best option when towing a 2000kg plus van on mountain passes such as Kangaroo Valley and Macquarie Pass?
What is the speed range in low range?
Don't have the hand book yet :?
                Cheers

I wouldnt be using low range for towing........

It is predominantly made for slippery and very steep 4wd tracks.

                  Maximum speed is around 50kph.
