  • Ultra Gauge Transmission Temp

    Hi,

Wondering if anyone has an Ultra Gauge (http://www.ultra-gauge.com) on a 120 series D4D 5 speed auto and if it can display the auto transmission temperature? I can see the Scan Gauge does have that ability, but as far as I can tell the Ultra Gauge cannot. The Ultra Gauge has some appealing characteristics, but lack of transmission temp would be a show stopper for me, as it's one of the main items I'd like to see while towing.

    Cheers,
    Mark

I've answered my own question but thought I'd post in case anyone was wondering. The short answer is "no, the ultra gauge can't display auto temp in Prado". Having said that, it "may" be possible. They have a product called the Ultra Gauge MX which has functionality similar to X Gauges in the Scan Gauge allowing you to enter custom codes (see here). I contacted the manufacturer via email, with the scan gauge ATF Temp codes, to see if it would work. Their response was that they are currently working with a customer using these exact codes and with same car and have not been able to get the ATF to display yet. So, as of now, according to the manufacture it doesn't work, but perhaps one day they'll figure it out. I will say something else about the manufacturer. They were quite prompt and friendly in replying to my query, which was nice to see.

        Thanks, Brooksy78.

I sent the Ultra Gauge people the Torque app codes you guys are using for transmission temp to see if that helped them get it working. They replied with the following...

"We found that the Prado does something very unusual. When a request is made, the Prado floods the bus with all sorts of data packets. One packet may have RPM, the next speed, the next coolant temp, the next trans temp, etc. UG is currently not setup to parse through a flood of such packets to find the desired packet."

So that's still a resounding no-go for auto temp in ultra gauge.

Interesting... Torque doesn't seem to have a problem. My temps behave as I expect, rise under load and then gradually drop as we coast. So all looks as expected

Just wondering if anyone else has an ultragauge working with 150 series prado. I ordered the new UltraGauge EM Plus a week or so ago to work through some issues I'm having with my triton. If it could talk to the prado too that would be a bonus.

Update... received the Ultragauge within about 2 weeks of placing the order. Have installed in my triton and didnt try it in the Prado first. Based on how good it is in the triton, I will probably order another one though. They are bloody awesome!

Looks interesting, can you run a quick test in your Prado for compatibility? I'd really like auto temp.

Have you considered doing it the cheap way and getting an OBDII scanner with bluetooth and then using the Torque app? I've now got auto transmission temps with an outlay of less than 20 bucks - see this thread:

Hi D4D, just pulled the UG out of the triton and plugged it into the Prado. Sorry mate... no ATF temp... yet.
I checked on the Ultragauge website

                    http://ultra-gauge.com/ZC/index.php?...products_id=57

which says "UltraGauge MX is simply a tool that provides the potential to access these parameters and provides no assurance that such parameters are actually available or accessible. The pre-programmed parameters can be fully reprogrammed by the user."

Might be a while before they have the Prado on there but I see they already have vehicle specific CAN programs for the Toyota Tacoma/Tundra.

Watch this space I suppose. I will definitely buy another one if I can get ATF temp.

Old thread but got this working quite easily. Auto download brought down the tundra/Tacoma gauges which didn't work, but easily added the Scanguage codes via the custom gauge settings. Just type them in as per the scanguage website. Happy days!
